Re: replacement door compatibility
As far as I know, doors from 1973-87 (till 91 on the Blazers and Burbs) will fit; however, they will have different exterior trim and door panels.
1973-76 have one style of door panels, then they changed it for 1977-1980. Changed again for 1981-87 (88 for Burbs/ Blazers), and finally the 1989-1991 Blazer and Suburbans have still another door panel style. So, if you'd like to make the simplest swap possible, go with a 1977-1980 Chevy or GMC door. What trim level is your truck?

The shorter answer to your question is that if all you are buying is the steel door shell itself, there are only two styles of the door shell stampings: 1) 1973-1976 which use a smaller interior panel and are not designed from the factory for room for power windows 2) 1977-up which use a larger interior panel as a result of the factory wanting the room to install the power window mechanisms. any door panel from any 77-up square body truck will fit onto any 77-up square body truck door. Depending how much work your want for yourself, or personal preferences, try to buy the door that currently has the same style mirror you want to run on the truck. The mounting holes are different for each style mirror, and you probably do not want to waste time welding up holes on your new doors. Last edited by 79 silverado; 03-10-2014 at 02:35 PM. |

Good point, I hadn't even thought of that. skygoddes: Do you have an emblem on the dash? Based on the description of the interior, it sounds about right that you have Cheyenne or Silverado. In 78, Silverado was top of the line, Cheyenne next step down.

Re: replacement door compatibility
Hi, Trim package? good question. You could probably answer better than I.
One side of the truck has a Cheyenne 10 medallion, the other side, Silverado 10. There was a spare Cheyenne 10 medallion in the truck , not too sure where it came from. The truck has vinyl seats and (aluminum, maybe?, ) interior door panel trim, with scroll type detailing. The exterior trim , aluminum and black stripe. No power windows. Thanks, I appreciate all your help. |
