1980 sierra lq9 4l80e swap best hardware compatability questions
I am planning on installing an lq9/4l80e in a static dropped 80 sierra 4x2. So far I have everything but the headers, ls swap mounts and oil pan(truck is very low). I plan on using my existing low mount ac compressor with custom made lines so they clear the frame(cheaper than spending $$$ for a high mount bracket). I will be using a floor mount American shifter dual action 23" so shift linkage is not a concern. I need to know what headers and ls mounts work together without frame or a/c comp bracket or engine mount modifications. I have spent countless hours searching and cant seem to find any answers. Does anyone know what long tube headers and swap mounts work without having to cut up the frame ? I am open to other options as well, such as mid tubes instead of Lt's. Id also like to keep my driveshaft. Right now I have a 200/4r drive shaft but have a drive shaft for a 700/r4/th350 truck.

Re: 1980 sierra lq9 4l80e swap best hardware compatability questions
Keeping your driveshaft isn't an option, you'll chase your tail and cost yourself more money. With a 4l80e, you need a different yolk anyway, just get a new shaft made.
Doug Thorley headers are the original longtubes for the LS swapped trucks. He goes a large primary version as well. They fit most swaps, tho a tiny bit of trimming can occur depending on how far forward/aft your engine is mounted and how high it sits in the crossmember. TBSS cast manifolds, early fbody manifolds, gto manifolds and I think even newer Camaro manifolds all clear various generations of trucks. I know you said you searched, but take a look through the build logs and try using the "Search this forum" tool, instead of the big Google search at the top. Its way more accurate and will get to you pertinant threads faster.

I used schoenfield 88-98 swap headers on my 74 lq4/80e and cleared everything. Drivers side was close to the a arm though.

Good and thanks this is the kind of info I need. I have DJM's a arms, top and Bottom. Do you have the OG low mount ac and bracket in place ?

Re: 1980 sierra lq9 4l80e swap best hardware compatability questions
I don't have AC at all,and used the dirty dingo sliding engine mounts, so it may not be relevant to your build, But at $280, the schonefeld headers are almost worth trying out anyway. They've got a picture of the passenger side fitment of the headers on their website if it helps you out at all. I'd post the address for you, but I dont know if it's a breech of policy here. But, the picture is under the new headers section listed for 73-early 99.
