Another mpg thread........sorta

I know there at a couple of mpg threads, but it seems most of them are 2wd's. The plan for my 70 K10 has always been a diesel for decent mileage, but the diesel in my blazer just grenaded so I'm rethinking my truck. Its a 70 k10, 3.73 gears, 7" of lift, 35's, and an NV4500. Any educated guesses on mileage with a mildly turboed 5.3? Thanks.

I honestly dont know anyone who drives a 4X4 with 7" of lift that has ever gave one flip what kind of fuel mileage they were getting.

What mileage were you getting with the diesel? Figure about 3/5ths of that is my estimate.

describe what happened to the diesel in the blazer...

Re: Another mpg thread........sorta

My blazer is an 83 K5 with a 6.2 and 700r4. 4" lift, 3.42 gears and 33's. I got 16-18 in town and 20-22 freeway. Kind of a beater, and I didn't take very good care of it. Its been runnin a little rough for the last week, but i thought i had got some bad fuel. It was starting to smoke a little out of the right bank. Then yesterday I ran my kids to school and was headed home and BOOM. And now the motors seized. The nice thing about these 6.2's though is if you know where to look you can find a good running one for $2-300. Not really worth rebuilding.

Honestly if you were enjoying that kind of mileage before, you will be very disapointed by an LS, especially one that can jerk some weight. WHy not go with a rebuilt 6.2? Would that be cost effective?

Re: Another mpg thread........sorta

Rebuilding these 6.2's is crazy expensive. You could buy 10 good running used ones. If I had that kind of money to spend on a diesel it would be a Cummins. Better mileage and more power. Cheaper to rebuild too. Well, I guess I'll keep the 6.5 in my truck for now. If it grenades I'll deal with it then.
