Help with Cluster..
I have a question about my gauge cluster..
There is gunk around the 'generator' gauge. I'm sure its old stuff from the 60s but I don't know how to get rid of it or what to do with it.. Also there is nothing in the hot cold gauge anything to replace that with also? Thanks |

Re: Help with Cluster..
I'd take the cluster out of the bezel and inspect the insides. They are pretty basic and straight forward. I'd bet you could easily clean that one up.
The holes that are filled are just for the lights to go into. That's a warning light unit, not gauges. If it were gauges....it'd be a lot more questionable if it'd clean up. The only gauge on that unit is the fuel gauge and it looks ok from the pics. You'll see a couple of screws that hold the cluster to the bezel and lens assembly. If you remove those, the cluster housing will come off. You can easily see the screws to remove the speedo and two side pods. Be carefull with the fuel gauge....water will take the writing off. The metal housing which has the holes covered up can then be cleaned and resprayed if you want. I'm betting its fine underneath. Also looks to be a 63 cluster which will work in the 62. 60-62 warning light clusters had real temp gauges in them. 63 had a warning light system for the temp. Heres a pic for reference. I have seen them with both white or chrome paint on the lens cover.

Re: Help with Cluster..
Well guys.. figured it out, I feel like such an idiot. I took it apart again and look more thorough into it. The blockages in the lights were actually dirt dobber nests.. I poked them out and they look clean. Also I found the lenses for the temp lights on my workbench...
Sorry for wasting everyone's time. |

Re: Help with Cluster..
LOL that makes a little more sense the lights were not plugged in and they said lets move in .....make sure you scrap the paint out of the light holes that use the steel socket's or they wont ground
