Wild coincidence at work today.

I had to put my 1990 suburban in the shop at work (GM DEALERSHIP) this past Saturday. I asked one of the service writers to write up a work order for me and gave him the mileage on my burb figuring he'd be able to find me in the system easily enough since it's been in before. this was late Saturday (My Friday) so I didn't see the work order until today when i got back to work.
Now is where things sent a chill down my spine.....The work order was written up for...

DAVID A. BRIGGS of palmer, Ak. owner of a 1982 Suburban (Not Me)

Not for....

DAVID R. BRIGGS of Anchorage, Ak owner of a1990 Suburban (This is me)

Now to take it a step further...
His 1982 suburban V.I.N. = 1GNGV26K5CF139523
My 1990 suburban V.I.N. = 1GNGV26K5LF139523

Re: Wild coincidence at work today.

You didn't happen to see Rod Serling standing around the shop anywhere, did you?

When I moved from Vancouver BC to here, at the same time, a guy with the same name as me moved from here to Vancouver BC. Found him on Facebook and we had a laugh over that.

I am racking my brain for a technical explanation for this...

Of course, the VIN is fairly easily explained, since (for the same type of vehicle) the prefix would be the same, and the sequential portion gets used over and over. In this case both vehicles were built at the same assembly plant (F=Flint) and the model year designator is what is different.

I had this happen with a Pontiac: I sent in for the build information on a Pontiac Michigan built GTO (237375P123888) and accidently was given the information for a Fremont California built car (237375Z123888). Took me a year to notice.

But the name coincidence....I have no explanation, except to say God must have a wicked sense of humor.
