ID front subframe
Hey gang,
I recently purchased a 58 Apache fleetside. It has a unknown front subframe under it. I am looking to purchase some new suspension parts but would like to nail down what exactly I should be buying parts for LOL. In some photos from searching online it looks like a 2nd gen Camaro/firebird subframe but the tie down points in the frame don't match up depending on the pictures I look at (the holes in the frame where the steering box bolts to). Any help would be appreciated! Here is the truck. Its a definite 20'er but I'll enjoy it. |

Maybe a Nova or other GM N-body equivalent from the 70's which would be almost the same as a 70's area front steer Camaro / Firebird

Nova, Camaro, etc are designated as X body.
Hard to tell from the pics, but the spindle doesn't look like X Body- maybe G (Monte Carlo)? |

Looks like Nova didn't get the front steer until '75. I thought it changed to front steer in '70 like the Camaro. Chevelles were always front steer thought

If you can find the casting numbers on the spindles, an internet search might get you there. Good Luck

Single piece spindles mark it as a 73 and up as the earlier Chevelles, Camaros and Novas had bolt on caliper brackets. I'm thinking 73/77 Firebird, Camaro or G body. The fatter sway bar may mean big block car or Trans AM, at least it looks fatter in the photos.
The way it is spliced is the way they did a lot of G body stub swaps.

The best I can get a measurement is guessing with a tape measure, roughly 58" hub to hub |

As you can tell the tires are flat, I have no air compressor and the floor jack wasn't working that is in the garage(not my garage)

When you said 58" hub to hub that made me think of G-body as they are 58" from wheeling mounting to wheel mounting surface but the upper control arms aren't arched like the G-bodies I have seen

yea I noticed that too. Im starting to think it is a 78 Nova clip... Off to the nova site to go through build threads hahah
