Favored shocks? Adjustable options?

Hey all,

Getting ready to order shocks for the front and rear of the 66. Does anyone have any experience with adjustable shocks on these vehicles, or have any recommendations on shocks? Looking for a good daily driver ride with a bit more firmness than found back in the 60's .

At SEMA a few years back I saw a few vendors offering some adjustable shocks, as well as one who had some electronics, on-the-fly adjustable ones. I'd settle for manual adjustments as I imagine the electronic are cost prohibitive. Interested to see what shocks people prefer and why.

I run good ol' yellow Monroe Gas Magnum on my stock height truck. They are just as you described with regard to firmness. The price is pretty good too. My lowered truck runs KYB lowered shocks which I bought from Early Classic and I like them too.

I threw the LMC cheepies on my truck in early 2012....got about 32K miles on em now and still quite happy with there function on my stock daily driver. My guess they's made off shore so if they ever wear out, should be rice wine in em for the hydrolic fluid that I'll be sure and recover!

Toxic Shock rear took out the bounce of the bags. Made by Pro Comp. As for adjustable as the shop says are you going to really going to get under the truck and make the right adjustment?

I've always had good luck with Hal/Qa1 shocks - ran different versions on my previous drag cars and hot rods. I currently run the single adjustable versions on my shop truck.

Apparently you can twist to adjust dampening on them.

Those are basically the same line I run on my truck. Double check the shock length and the travel measurements to your suspension's travel, making sure it's in the middle at your ride height.

Do I just measure the suspension hanging vs. what it would be all the way to the bump stop for the min-max travel measurements?

Problem is I'm working on a lightened load, in that I won't have any body on for awhile. Short of sandbagging the frame not sure I could get to proper ride height for awhile.
