Gauge Combatable?

Evening,

I probably should have asked this before I bought the gauges. But, will the 63-66 gauges work/fit in my 62 truck?

I'm pretty sure I can wire it so they function, but will they fit in the housing? And, will the newer model gauges need different sending units to work properly.

Thanks

Re: Gauge Combatable?

There are 2 types of gauge clusters - '60-'63 & '64'-'66.
Shoot us a picture of what you have and we can tell you if it will fit your '62.

Greg.

Re: Gauge Combatable?

Nope,won't fit Terry
That is a 64-6 panel
shouldn't be too tough of a sell though being it has gauges
The 60-62 and 63-66 split refers to chassis components (including bumpers)
whereas the 60-63and 64-66 refers to body related parts.
63 is a one year only kind of deal with its later chassis and earlier cab.
The heater(where it passes through the firewall
Wiper motor
Master cylinder
Standard shift pedal assembly
Front floor pans(just the mounting hole is in a different spot)
are parts that will not fit your 62
just things to keep in mind when shopping for parts.

Re: Gauge Combatable?

you might be able to retro fit the gauges into the 62 housing as you stated. won't be a bolt in though.

Re: Gauge Combatable?

Great!

Anyone want to buy a set of gauges?

Anyway, are there any differences in sending units. For example, when I was/am building my 64 GTO, the fuel sending unit has a different resistance than a 65.

Re: Gauge Combatable?

The 60-66 truck fuel gauges were 0-30ohms, and the oil and temp units should be pretty close to the same. If your running gauges, you won't have an oil sending unit...its plumbed into the engine block. The temp unit in the head or intake and the fuel sendings in the tank....so they shouldn't be much issue.

Wiring is different from factory gauges and factory warning lights though....which did your truck come with originally?

Re: Gauge Combatable?

I don't know. There's a set of VDO gauges in there now, but I much prefer a factory appearance.
