First Timer, First Build

Hello guys this is my first post, and my first build.
I'm building a 1953 GMC on S10 chassis. Motor is a 396 with a t400 tranny. I'm looking for a rearend but I don't know much about them as for strength, was able to locate a 12 bolt rearend ( not sure this is what I need) maybe someone will chime in. I will get pics up as soon as I get going. Thanks to the form and members I can't stop reading, lol.

Re: First Timer, First Build

Welcome!! Rear end depends on how you are going to use it. This has been discussed a lot, the search box at the top defaulted to this site will find a bunch of threads. I have abused lots of stock 10" rear ends over the years and found the universals would break before the rear end would. Unless you are building a big horsepower engine to REALLY abuse, there are lots of choices. Width will be a big factor with the S-10 AD swap assuming you want relatively stock parts in case you have a problem out on the road.
