stupid disc brake compatibity question

Alright, like it says, I have a question that is probably dumb, and I think I know the answer to but I'm going to ask anyway just to be sure.

I'm running CPP drop spindles and am going to buy a 6 lug disc conversion kit.

Are the calipers in the different kits ( CPP, McGauty's, LMC, etc..) all the same size? and interchangeable.

For example, McGauty's says you must use their spindles with their brake kit. I think this really just a marketing ploy. I think they are all pretty much '73 calipers right?

Re: stupid disc brake compatibity question

I have a 78 burb 2WD cross member under my 62 C10 with Bell 2 1/2" drop spindles and McGaughey 1 1/4" rotors.

The HD calipers are off the shelf from N@P@ for the 78... as well as the ball joints and tie rods - so I'm guessing you are on track there.

Thanks for the input.

I figure they are all the same, dimension wise / bolt hole wise. I would just rather ask and have a few people heckle me that spend money and have to return things and re-spend money.

Re: stupid disc brake compatibity question

Dumb question on my part - were you using the drop spindles with drum brakes? I didn't think that was possible but I am pretty new to these trucks.

Re: stupid disc brake compatibity question

No. I pulled those with the tear down and went straight to drop spindles. I'm in the middle of putting it all back together from a full frame off resto. I have pics and am planning on making a build thread, but so far I haven't done anything that you haven't already seen around here.
