A ARM Studs?
Ok Guys, I need to know where I can get some new arms studs / bolts and how to replace them? Do they press out or can I drive em out with a hammer? The guys that did my Powder Coat left the bolt threads up protected and now they are shinny black. WELL..........I stripped one out trying to get a nut off with a impact. DANG I hope I don't have to remove the front crossmember. HELP.......

Re: A ARM Studs?
You can use a torch and wire brush to burn off the powder coat that ended up on your threads. I don't know how bad the striped bolt is, but I would try cutting off the nut with a dremel, burning off the powder on the bolt, and using a tap to clean up the treads. Any pics?

Re: A ARM Studs?
The bolt is turning inside the crossmember. I think it's going to require me to remove the crossmember and press it out. YUCK!

Re: A ARM Studs?
You don't have to remove the crossmember. There are holes in the frame for the studs to be removed.

Re: A ARM Studs?
I'm pretty sure you can buy the new bolts from any GM parts counter. I bought new GM control arm bolts for my 64 C10 not very long ago, from the local chevy dealer parts counter.

Re: A ARM Studs?
Well I ordered some new bolts from LMC and received them today in the mail. I drove the old bolt / stud out and drove the new bolt / stud in. Can somebody please tell me how to get splined washer spacer onto the bolt? I assume I need a press because when I try to start the spacer on the bolt with my BFH in drives the bolt / stud back out of the crossmember. Has anybody ever changed these damn things out? Man what a screw up this has been. PLEASE HELP......... I am tying to install a complete suspension upgrade package from CPP and this one bolt has the whole project stopped. You guys think I need to drop the crossmember and try to press this baby in place? Maybe weld it from the back side? I am kinda thinking that after I get in place it might spin inside the crossmember? Thanks in advance.

Re: A ARM Studs?
I had the same problem with mine. I thought the studs pressed into the frame. I didn't have any washers to press on them so. I just used Grade 8 bolts with washers to button mine up worked fine.
You can see them in this photo. Bret

Re: A ARM Studs?
Thanks for the reply. Your frame and engine looks great! Do you think the grade 8's will hold up with a lot of miles? Have you driven your truck? Thanks again...I feel a whole lot better after reading that.

Re: A ARM Studs?
Yes they will hold up. When I tore it down someone had used grade 5 bolts. Not sure how long they were in there but they were rusted.
