5" bolt pattern on a 9"

I'm installing a Ford 9 inch in my 1955 2nd but need a 5x5 bolt pattern. Can the stock axles be converted to 5x5 (welded and re-drilled)? Are there any after market axle companies that make 5x5 shafts?

I've redrilled axles, rotors, and drums before. It's not that hard with a compass and some patience. And a good drill press. With 5 lug you put the new holes between existing holes. You also want to check the axle center to make sure it's right for your wheels and brakes. Too small and it won't provide the centering you need. Too large and you can't get the drum/rotor/wheel installed.

Moser will make axles to your specs.

It's a pretty common machine shop task but you want the right shop doing it.

Both Mosier and Dutchmans motor Sports do it if you want to ship the axles off.

That might be fine for those with deep pockets, but for many that expense is not an option. I usually have to re-adapt, fix and make work with what I have, make it work in the most economical way I can.

My truck came to me with a GM 12 bolt rear end, with 4 3/4" back set rims it is still 7" too wide for the tires to fit under the fenders. So whack off 3 1/2" off each side, some welding and Moser axles, new bearings and a few hours of my time it will still be under a Grand. which is a lot closer to affordable here in retirement. :) I do realize I am building this for Me to drive, not a paying client/customer.

A few months ago I was shopping for 5 on 5 custom axles for the boys leaf spring 6 lug Dana 44 rear.. I called all the big name axle manufactures, let me tell you, I don't know how some of these phone techs get their ego swollen heads thru the door in the morning.. The act to busy to answer questions.. one was just totally arrogant..

But I will say we went with Duchman these people were fantastic no question was to small or insignificant phone calls were returned...
Total for new axles with studs, retainers, access holes, bearings $417 and they were in or hands in a little less than 2 weeks..
When I install one of these Dana 44's in my 52 I will be ordering another set from them!
