Muffler, Exhaust Routing Recommendations

I have been thinking fow a couple of months I need to run new exhaust in the near future. It's old and way too loud, back when I was a teenager out to annoy the neighbors with my loud pipes this would have been the exhaust to have. A pipe off each manifold 12" glass pack on each pipe then dumped before the axle. it's too loud in the cab, rattles the front windows on the house when we start it up, my dog wont ride in the truck and in the winter with the heater and radio mixed in I can't take it.

Thursday on the way to work one of the old hangers broke and the pipe on the drivers side hit the pavement at 40 MPH. It's beyond repair so now I'm forced to put new exhaust on it. I just can't figure out what route to go I'd like to keep the duals but would be open to a 2 in to 1 and run a single pipe out the back under the bumper.

I want the truck to sound like a truck but now be over powering loud. I am leaning to a toned down glass pack but think a good performance muffler might be better. I don't care for Flowmasters as much as I did 15 years ago. The Magnaflow that I had on my '88 Blazer had a good sound and I think that might be a good way to go this time. I also really liked the MBRP system I had on my '05 Colorado Off road truck but the guy I sold the truck to said the muffler had to be replaced shortly after I sold it to him. The muffler would have been less than 3 years old at that point.

truck has a 283 V8 I really don't want to dump it under the bed I would like to run it out the back under the bumper or sides behind the rear tire

What are you guys running and what do you recommend? You guys know these trucks better than I

I ran a dual 2" system with Brockman Mellowtones. It had a classic 60's sound.

You buy them from the Brockmans on their website. My friend got some 26"ers from them. They come packed with fiberglass or stainless steel wool. He chose fiberglass because Mrs. Brockman said they are quieter.

My Delta Flow Flowmasters resonate less in cab than regular 40s dumped at axle. The 50 series on moms 97 is a lot quieter than the 40 that was on it. Sounds the same outside with less volume. I had Dynomax "Turbo" mufflers on 454 but sometimes you cant hush a big block. Anything other than a 12" glasspack will work. Even my sidepipes were quieter then those.

Do NOT buy the ones from Pypes! Once they break in, they get obnoxious sounding!

I just put the dynomax turbo mufflers on mine and ran the 2 1/4" out to the back and exit at the corner of the bed. Nice and quiet in the cab and still have a good sound when you romp on them.

I did 2 into 1, then 3 inch routed under the frame, into the RF wheel well. It runs straight back outside the frame through a generic, straight through, oval muffler and turnes out after the rear wheel. I used stainless; the pipe in the wheel house gets sprayed by the tire. I've been thinking about this lately. My '65 K10 has a 400 small block with ram's horns and 2 1/2" duals that end at the mufflers (another partially completed project by the P.O.). Since none of that is actually bolted together, I'm thinking of ditching the duals and going with a y-pipe and a 3" single exhaust with a 3-chamber Flowmaster that dumps out from the stock location under the driver's side rear fender. I might even through at cat in under there to clean up the exhaust a bit. Haven't decided yet.

I have a 283 with headers into 8" glass packs and dumped just before the rear axle. So I know exactly what you're talking about. I plan on swapping my glass packs to some oval body magnaflow mufflers to mellow it out. I'll make sure I add a video so you can see what it sounds like.
