New Build Break-in
What kind of oil filter do I need to break in my 350 chevy motor with Joe Gibbs Break-in oil? I know I need 2 filters and 5 more quarts of oil but was wondering If I need a special filter for break-in.

I prefer wix filters, but whatever you plan to run. Strain oil and cut filter after break in to make sure there is nothing huge. You'll undoubtedly get some shiny stuff. I use a paint strainer. That's what I do.

I don't even like ~looking~ at the oil after break-in. It always has horrible death-metallic-streaks of goodness that makes you freak out like some is going horribly, horribly awry. That's just the way it is. Don't look. Worry if the next drain shows the same.

If it has a flat tappet cam you need to make sure to use an oil that has zinc additive for the break in. If not you risk wiping cam lobes. Just my $.02.

I do fresh oil and filter for the first 20 min break-in. Then change.
Then I go out and seat the rings (low gear, more and more full-on throttle and decel to load and seat rings), then change. Then I just drive it normally, change the oil again after about 500 miles. You can't change it too frequently. And that first oil change will scare you.

I live in HOT- HUMID Florida... should I get 5w30 or 15w50 Joe Gibbs Racing Break-in Oil?

15w50 and order your filters by the dozen from Rock Auto. It's called a master pack and they're way cheaper.
