1959 GMC headlight buckets
Ok so I have been looking for about a week and a half to find more info. I just got a 59 gmc but it has no headlight buckets. Not really sure what is there I didn't look to hard when I made the deal to buy it. Think I did take a picture of front end... anyway I just am trying to figure out what buckets will work for this pickup other years and makes that type of stuff also any ideas on front grill and bumper? I have always loved these old pickups and couldn't pass on this deal paid $500 for pickup from 76yr. old man. It doesn't run but he tells me it will, time will tell. Would like to do some type of restomod but I have limited funds and time with 2 young kids and being a disabled vet at 29yr. old 32 now but money is always tight with my disability. Any help with leads on parts or any info would be grate! Will try to get better pic this weekend should be picking it up sat.

Re: 1959 GMC headlight buckets
were you wounded or injured while serving in the military? I'm willing to do what I can to help anybody who's in that position.
Is there a radiator? I'd concentrate first on getting enough stuff together to start the engine so you can see what you have there. Small stuff on the body you cam accumulate as you go along. Headlight stuff will need to be a four eyed truck, 58-59. Looks like your truck was originally a DeLuxe, chrome bumpers, stainless trim around the cab, chome lock strips in the windshield rubber, etc. Can you post more pics of the engine compartment? so we try to see what's there and what's missing? I see door and window handles on the floor. need to clean the thing out, but be careful about tossing any actual truck parts. |

Re: 1959 GMC headlight buckets
I see a radiator in the bed, any idea if it will hold water?
Looking closer at your pics, I see the drivers side wing window assembly on the floor. Has it got the chrome upright section? it was a deluxe cab, might be chrome. Those things are available at re-pop vendors, but expensive. Wonder how much other stuff is in the bed? |

Re: 1959 GMC headlight buckets
Yes i was medically retired from the army with just over 6 years in.
Also as noted there is a radiator not sure of shape if it will function as is. Owner said it would run he pulled water pump due to leak there and never got anything back together. The pickup is at his house still plan is to get it in am. He was going to get better tires on it so it can be moved and round up all the parts for it too. I told him just toss any and everything in the bed he had planned to clean that out too, pull his junk out. It also dose have driver side wing Window was told that main glass is in bottom of the door but it was to dark to see in there. I also had seen lots of parts in the cab and bed but didn't look to close had 2 hours to get home and the kids. Also couldn't beet the price he was asking $600 I offer $500 he said yes and shook hands he answered fast maybe should have gone for less but we were both happy. Plan is to get it running first then work on other things just thought lights would be hard to find well that and a grill. But I don't need a grill to be legal to drive. Thanks for info will post more pic and info when I get the pickup home! |

Re: 1959 GMC headlight buckets
Thank you for your service. Here is what they look like, the silver part holds the lamp and appears to me a standard GM four light unit. The large black part does not appear to be reproduced but they do show up on ebay. They are unique to 58-59 as Ogre said. The wiring, connectors and adjustment clips are reproduced.

Re: 1959 GMC headlight buckets
Front frame to bumper brackets and fleetside tailgate trunnions. I do not know if the bumper brackets are specific to 58-59 or fit all TF.

Re: 1959 GMC headlight buckets
58CameoAZ I sent PM thanks so much I am so excited to get this pickup up and going still have lots to figure out for parts that I do or don't have. I don't even remember if it had the wiring for the headlights anyone have any recommendations for where to get good manual and engine parts also any ideas on brake lights as of now it doesn't have any. Thought till I figure out what I wanted to do would just wire up some trailer lights idk... Orge the challenger headlight wood look cool but maybe a bit to much for me to take on.

Re: 1959 GMC headlight buckets
I think fit all 55-59. the frame horns are the same and so is the bumper. AFAIK anyway.

Re: 1959 GMC headlight buckets
Rough might be an understatement but still really excited to get it and as I said before money is short. This was a stretch but I have taken on projects that had more rust then this dose with more parts to find however larger aftermarket world with that build and it never did get finished was sold for this one.. well should me tomorrow night I have my fingers crossed.

Re: 1959 GMC headlight buckets
So finally got pickup home owner was not at all ready like he had said... had to cut metal fence with torch 3 different tires. Lots of scattered parts to be found some he had pulled out with trash and was in random areas. Got a few pictures when I finally got home 8 hours later... need to figure out what I need for engine. Also some random stuff under the dash. Need to get some time to really look this thing over good

Re: 1959 GMC headlight buckets
Nice ignition switch! Should be a lot more engineering as you get in deeper.
