vacum advance

on older HEI dist when setting up the vacum advance does it hook to the full constant vacum or to the one that has no vacum at idle then more vacum as motor revs-- sorry dumb question but i think someone messed with mine and i am replacing the vacum advance pod

This is a topic that has been argued for as long as I can remember. I've always run mine on full vacuum at idle. To me it don't make any sense to have it setup so it uses ported vacuum. Advancing the timing when the engine is reved is supposed to be done with the mechanical advance. If the advance is properly setup, it works great.
