Does this motor come with everything to make my truck from carb to throttle body because if so I'm all over that

Re: Throttle body crate engine
Wow, nice setup with FI. The FI is a stand alone system. You'll need to connect an O2 sensor. You can weld a bung in or switch to headers with a bung already welded in. You'll need a fuel pump not included.

Re: Throttle body crate engine
I would buy an old TPI Camaro or Firebird and swap that in, then buy a crate motor if you found it necessary.

Re: Throttle body crate engine
it is an awesome set up but I don't know if it's worth the extra cash over a carb set up

Re: Throttle body crate engine
Looks like a good setup. My only question is why include a 2 barrel throttle body with a 4 barrel intake?

Re: Throttle body crate engine
Pretty sure there aren't any four barrel throttle bodies.

I'm not sure the engine listed above would or wouldn't benefit from a larger CFM, but most do ! If they rate 2 venturi throttle bodies the same way they rate 2 bbl carbs the 670 would be about 424 in four barrel CFM. I had a racecar that was restricted to using a 2 bbl and we used a stock Holley 670 racing 2 bbl and it was a restriction. Completely different scenario compared to the crate engine above tho'. The package should run comparable to an '88 to '95 factory TBI setup with a little less torque or gas mileage. Looks to be a nice "plug 'n play" setup ! |

I did a MPFI 3.1 swap from a Firebird to an '86 S10 Blazer 4x4, so I didn't have to change the transmission. Got the car for $200.

Re: Throttle body crate engine
Looks like a decent deal but I’ve never been a fan of any aftermarket EFI systems especially Holley’s that is a continuous open loop system. That is a pretty crude EFI system IMHO…GM hasn’t used a constant open loop system since the early 80’s when TBI was still rocket science.
You can buy that same engine from Summit for $1509 with free shipping then like Sean said, use a TPI system and end up with a better end product with maybe a few penny’s left over. FWIW, 2 barrel throttle bodies on a 4 barrel intake is not bad or anything new. GM did that from the factory on TBI 454’s from 1987 to 1990. Holley had or has a 4 barrel TB unit but it is typical Holley material. Have you ever noticed there are a lot of used Holley EFI systems on CL for some reason?? Just sayin

Re: Throttle body crate engine
Because it's a crude terrible system, like DirtyLarry said here.

Re: Throttle body crate engine
I completely agree on the TPI style setup , and it would work great on the GM L31 vortec crate engine with a vortec compatable base.

Re: Throttle body crate engine
I called jegs it has everything you need fuel pump and computer and it doesn't work off an O2 sensor

Re: Throttle body crate engine
Speed density still uses an oxygen sensor to determine the air/fuel ratio.

Re: Throttle body crate engine
I asked them at jegs they said speed density no o2 sensor. And the kit doesn't include an o2 sensor

Re: Throttle body crate engine
So a carb system would be better and it'll definitely be cheaper

Re: Throttle body crate engine
No, a proper fuel injection system would be better. In my opinion, I'm a fuel injection guy. But I prefer OBDI.

With an oxygen sensor.

Re: Throttle body crate engine
You could do better I think. Especially in the TBI department.
I had a Holley throttle body for a while, not the whole EFI system, just the throttle body. It was a good quality well machined piece with poor quality electrics screwed to it. I wasn't overly impressed, and ultimately ditched it for a stock unit. It's not hard or expensive to get 250hp out of a TBI motor, and it will have plenty of torque for a pickup. Check out the link below, this pretty well sums it up. http://tbichips.com/?page_id=73 |
