68 Chevy Stepside 4X4 Lift Options

Just got a 68 stepside for free, been laying in the bushes for 5 years, gonna pull the cab and bed to clean it up, wanna do a 4" lift. Can anyone tell me the cheapest way to lift this truck 4", with a decent ride, I have a full shop so can do almost anything, but don't want to do 2 days work to save 200 bucks if you know what I mean, I know blocks were the norm back in the day, heard they are a no no now and heard abt. a shackle flip in rear and new springs in front being the best and most economical approach, can anyone shed some light ? Also what wheel size, offset and max tire size should I be using ?

I'd get the truck home and really look it over very carefully before making too many plans for lifting it. There will be plenty of time for the fun stuff after you make sure the frame is good and you can get it running !

I hear ya frame is solid, already have a nasty small block to replace the 6 cylinder, once its a rolling chassis, is the best time to do the lift undercoat or paint the frame etc.

Just didn't want you putting the cart before the horse ! It's easy to get excited about a new project !

The big No No with blocks is up front, in the rear there OK but springs are better. I can't answer you as far as the shackle flip goes, never done that. If you go with a 4" lift you can put 35's on it unless your going to be wheeling it "REALLY" hard. With a username like mtnxtreme you might be..... "LOL"

Thanks Gary, ya I won't be going crazy with it LOL, ya I read some stuff on here abt, shackle flips, how abt. small block vs. big block, anyone I got 2 motors laying around small block with abt. 450 hp and a big block with 750 hp but I think I'm saving that for my 40 Coupe project LOL

So it looks like I'm gonna do the ORD 4" shackle flip in rear, just wondering if anyone has any suggestions for the front as no one makes stuff for 67-68!??!??!

Call SkyJacker. They don't have springs listed for the front of a 68 but they got me a set for my 68 GMC. I went with a 6" lift but they may have something for you.

Give them the length of the spring eye center to eye center after you get it out. Also, I got the Softride springs and it was worth it. One final thing, you may need a longer shackle to make it all work up front.

Geez I can't believe not just a handfull of companies ? Only one ? 67-68 problem child ! LOL Also can anyone tell me the size/ offset, backspace and bolt pattern for the wheel I'm gonna need.
