removable top c10???
i recently picked up a 73-75 k5 full topper for a bill on cl,and was going to use it to build another "full-top conversion" on another k5,this way id have 2,a 2wd which i currently have,(that i converted from half cab top,to full convert, using 74 donor,as well as converting it fom 4wd to 2wd)and a 4wd that i could/would convert to full convertable status(as i have the winshield frame as well)but i think id like to try and make a convertible c10 shortbed by possibly chopping the cab at the nessasary points, measuring and cutting the 73-75 topper and fabbing in the rear of the window to the topper? has anyone done,or seen this type of mod? any insight/know-how on this mod would be greatly appreciated!

Re: removable top c10???
I have seen some of these done and spoke with the owners. Most of them have said that they have to make sure that the back wall of the cab is reenforced. Many have said they use 2x2 steel and make sure there is sufficient strength for the rear door frames. You will have to move the seats forward about 2 inches. I have never seen a roof from a blazer done most use a second roof from another truck to do the removable top. One owner I was speaking to mounted the removable top in the bed of the truck with custom made clamps to hold it in place.

Re: removable top c10???
I saw someone do this on a Mazda B2000 pickup. they cut the roof of the cab off and tried to re-attach it using clamps that you would see in an older convertible top. Structurally it was fine, the problem was the water seal around the top of the windshield and the upper corners.
I think if you cut the windshield top off of a blazer and graft it onto your C10 you would be able to retain the factory rubber seal that the blazer top was designed for, it should give you a good water seal. I'm not sure how you'd go about trying to graft a fiberglass K5 top to a steel C10 upper cab to complete the 90 degree bend of the rear part of the cab.

Ive seen this for sale on CL for a while. This would make the conversion you want much easier.

Re: removable top c10???
The roof only is 999 and its fiberglass so it would be lighter and easier to remove. As far as making your own for 150 did you add up your time or just parts and materials?

Re: removable top c10???
uh...i dont think you are comprehending what im wanting/going to do? im going to be using a "fiberglass" 73-75 k5 topper that im going to cut/mold accordingly to rest/fit on the c10 cab that i chop(basically the same concept as the picture attached,as i believe there tops and the 73-75 toppers are of the same mold just shortened?) being that the c10 cab and k5 winshield pillar are the same dimensions,i am going to weld in the top of a winshield post from a 73-75 k5,that will allow the cut/fabbed top to interlock(just like a 73-75 k5)this as well as cutting/grafting in the rear window from the c10 to the k5 topper.ive already done/own a conversion of this nature on my 86 k5,chopping of the cab and grafting in a 73-75 winshield pillar post, reinforcing, cutting doors accordingly, making a "full convertible" out of the before "half cab" removable top on my 86 as i already have all the donor parts/material at hand(3 c10 cabs to play with,73-75 k5 glass topper, winshield pilar post, and liquid resin, and glass mat left over from numerous mods i perform on my 6 gbodies)as mentioned,i really just wanted to see if anyone had beat me to the punch and possibly could provide insight/know-how on the mod?

Re: removable top c10???
Have you possibly thought of maybe looking for the "pacesetter" halfcab molds? that might be a cool way to do it, they made them for the 73-75 k5's, they are hard to find but they ARE around, maybe a wanted ad on CL. a buddy of mine has a few here in alaska he has a couple of each mold for the GM blazers 69-72/73-75 and the glass wall version for the 76-91. Good idea and good luck when its done it will look trick.
