odd things on my 87

Wondering if any of you (especially ones who own 87s) have the following odd/different things on their trucks. Well this is according to me.
First thing is the driver's door lock. The switch does not operate up/down. This one operates front/back.
Second is it came from factory with no front sway arm. This is according to the original and second owner (father initially purchased truck). I'm the 3rd owner.
Third is it has a factory lock for the spare tire. It's a locking cover that fits after the eyelet bolt. Sorry, don't have any pics at the moment but can take if needed.
Thanks for the feedback/help.

Can't rotate it. The hole is rectangled. Looks like this is how it came from factory.

Is it a Mexican truck? There are some odd features from across the border and I noticed you are in a border town.

Re: odd things on my 87

No, somebody turned a pair of non-power panels into power panels and in the process they cut the lock opening 90 degrees off.

The bezels are rectangular in shape and can only fit in one way. The factory panel cutout is slightly longer in the horizontal plane (and so is the bezel - when LOCK is at the top or bottom).

Leave it like that anyway - gives the truck character. Street cred.

Re: odd things on my 87

a) Somebody screwed up on the door lock. Should be up/down.

b) The spare tire lock is a GM accessory.

c) Front sway bar is optional. The person that ordered the truck did not choose RPO F59.

Re: odd things on my 87

That is not a normal lock button. If it was installed as it is supposed to be then "lock" would be upside down. Looks like a normal button would fit there.

Re: odd things on my 87

The truck is not a Mexican truck but does belong to a Mexican. lol

I did forget to say that the door lock switch is not square, it's rectangular. If I was to install it the "right" way (up/down), the switch would not even with the window switches as Sean's pictures show. I don't have a problem with the switch. Only thing I'm worried about is what I'm going to do when the switch ever decides to go out. I don't think I'll be able to find another that's the same.

Re: odd things on my 87

That switch bezel thing is bizarre. I didn't notice at first but, it is normal in every way except for the location of the "LOCK" marking.

Mr. badchevy's is on the righthand side border rather than on the bottom (like every other bezel I have seen):

And even if were indexed so that LOCK was on the bottom rail, it still wouldn't be correct - the lettering would be upside down. The way it is printed, no matter which way you indexed it, you would still have to push up on the toggle switch to move it towards the LOCK position.

Ha! That switch bezel might be worth big money - you know, like a rare misprinted stamp.

Even if it was factory (...it's not...) it wouldn't be rare.

No problem.

This was my idea of a joke, too.

Re: odd things on my 87

I took the door panel off a while back and all looked normal. I have to take the door panel off again to replace the arm rest. I'll check for any markings on the switch and panel.

Re: odd things on my 87

The door lock switch is likely from an 80's Pontiac, Buick or Chevy car. They had the lock word inscribed at the top of the switch.

Re: odd things on my 87

Somebody just put in the wrong switch. While I can't think of which particular vehicles came with that switch I am familiar with the lock type it would be used for.

Only thing is the window switch would be a little closer to carpet trim piece/door handle. If the wrong switch was installed, then the panel had to be cut differently for placement of both switches. You can see this if you compare the placement of the switches in the pic I posted and you posted.

They're both the same size, or at least look like the hole would be the same size. I can measure one if you want. Or I can measure the hole.

No need. I just went and compared my '82 and '87. The window switch is a tad bit farther forward than my 82 but nothing too drastic.

That doesn't matter, it doesn't affect the lock switch. Putting in the correct one would make it look, well, correct.
