1967 suburban 1/2 ton 4x4 part out or not?
I'm new to this site but really love it a lot! I can't believe it took me so long to join it! I have a 1967 suburban 4x4 1/2 ton with the tailgate rear. It has the factory 292 6cylinder with 4 speed. From what I've read and heard this is a very rare suburban, one of like 166 four wheel drive half tons made this year. It needs the normal rust repair on the rockers, a little bit on the floor, behind wheel wells etc. Of course it also needs a complete resto to be nice again. My question to people out there is this, is this thing something that should be restored due to its rarity even though it needs tons of work? Or would I be better off parting it out? It is from what I can figure, 100 percent complete except for the headliner. It runs quite well, drives decent. Everything seems to work, all gauges heater etc. just not really sure what to do with it. I'm more of a blazer Jimmy and Pickup guy. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, George

Re: 1967 suburban 1/2 ton 4x4 part out or not?
Welcome George!
First off, you're going to be asked to post pics. Pictures will help those that know help you out and allow the rest of us to live vicariously through your dilemma. I can tell you, I restored a far from collectable, Panel and I love it but I did have a personal connection. The panel has now been my daily ride for years. A 4x4 suburban would have been a better choice for me and would be a really fine project for anyone, including yourself. So, I'll vote restore. If I get to vote. Cheers, Rob. |

Re: 1967 suburban 1/2 ton 4x4 part out or not?
Rob, thank you for the welcome! It amazes me how many people out there are into these trucks! The little town I live in here in Montana is still fairly remote so there's not a lot of activity with classic trucks. Anyways, yes I will indeed post some pictures of it, I'm still slowly figuring out how this site works but ill get it pretty quick. Those panels are pretty darn cool! You don't see many of those around. I understand completely about the sentimental attachment. I have a 71' cheyenne super 4x4 that my father bought new, it was pretty far gone but I make er beautiful again. I'm currently building a 1972 GMC Jimmy, it's sucking up lots of cash as they all do. Ill probably end up putting the suburban up for sale on here weather it be in parts or as a whole.

I vote restore, too. Or sell it complete to someone that will restore it. There are fewer and fewer suburbans every day.

Re: 1967 suburban 1/2 ton 4x4 part out or not?
I would vote to restore which mine is a 69 4x4 suburban. Would like to see some pics also and have some amazing parts so far. On the other had even being a member doesn't allow to sell parts either. You must have permission and yes I tried.
Keep looking there is some really good ideas and technical info that helps. If interested in selling I may be. Need pics and $

If I had the cash, I'd offer to buy that from you. Me buying anything will have to wait (for now).

Bob, I can't seem to figure out how to upload photos. I go to the thread, click go advanced then Tryan attach photos, I click upload, but nothing ever appears. Not sure what I'm doing wrong.

Re: 1967 suburban 1/2 ton 4x4 part out or not?
If you are trying to upload more than one picture at a time the server will a lot of times "time out" and will not do anything. Try going back to advanced, attachment, browse ( find file you are looking for) then click upload for just the one. When it is finished uploading it will remove one of the browse options leaving you with 4 left. Click browse and repeat until you have all five uploaded. You can then scroll down and click on preview post and it should bring up all 5 in the viewer and allow you to add text or whatever you want to do before hitting submit.

Also try uploading one or two at a time instead of uploading 5 at once.

Ok guys I gave up trying to upload onto this thread. I started an album and titled it 1967 Suburban. That seems to have worked flawlessly

George,
That is a nice album of pictures of your suburban and from that album to entice folks to have a look here are a couple of your photos. Hope you don't mind. George's 67... |

Re: 1967 suburban 1/2 ton 4x4 part out or not?
George I can hear the screaming already....... But I'm throwing it out there because it's true. Rare does not equal valuable. It's your Burb do what you want but I base my 2 cents on my experience. I rebuilt/restored a 1964 Chevelle SS for my daughters first car original 6 cylinder 3 on the tree car. 64 SS was an appearance option only. It now has a V8 with an automatic easily converted back to a manual trans. It is easly worth more now than a 6 with a 3 speed. If you had something that had all the cool goodies than keeping it stock would make it more valuable. But stripo's don't mean there more valuable. Love to hear other options.......

Re: 1967 suburban 1/2 ton 4x4 part out or not?
This is true of most people. Burbs are cool but they are definitely a step down on the desirability ladder when compared to swb trucks or blazer/jimmy. If you don't love it I would try to sell as-is. I think you would net more money than parting it out. Also, this thread will probably get nuked unless you subscribe. It is probably too close to a wts/wiw for the mods around here.

I've owned several of these trucks over the decades including a couple SWB and Jimmy/Blazers. The LWB and Suburban are so much more useful and drive so much better.

I will probably never own another SWB PU, since it just could not compare to the everyday usefulness of the Suburban. Suburbans, especially 4x4 models are extremely useful and comfortable for the driver and it's passengers. To the OP, I hope that you keep it in one piece and sell it to someone that will revive it as is. It looks like an easy restoration, especially a mild resto to get it reliable and looking good with out having to paint it. If I were you, I would put a few bucks and a little bit of labor in to it to get it turn key. You will be able to sell it a lot easier as a truck one could buy and drive away with. The 67-68 and even the 69-72 4x4 Suburban's are special, since you just do not see them on the road or at shows. When I go to an all Chevy truck show, I might be in the company of one other 4x4 Suburban. Where as EVERYONE has an SWB pick up...

Re: 1967 suburban 1/2 ton 4x4 part out or not?
Robb, thank you for helping me with the pictures, I appreciate that. I agree that the cool factor is fairly low on this thing and yes it's rare but it's no super desirable model. I do think there is probably someone out there that would love to dump $30k in this old girl though. I just don't think I have the heart to part it out. I may list it in the vehicle sale section here soon. I'm afraid I have enough projects going rite now to last me the rest of my life! Ha

Chris, I agree they are very useful and I've decided not to part it out. I know if I sell it ill never find another one. I would love to see it go to someone that would put the time and money into it that it needs.
