66 rescue
well I said id post some pics so here we go. im still trying to figure this out. when I say newbie I mean it. So while out driving with my daughter we came across this 66 custom cab SBWLB sitting in a field. I had started looking for a project and lets just say i'm a sucker for trouble. After asking the local residents about the truck I was told the owner would never sell it. one guy was saying he gets asked about the truck all the time and the owner wouldn't sell it. he gave me the guys name. After contacting the PO we were able to chat a lot about it. he said ever one wanted him to basically give the truck away. I was the first one that had made him a decent offer. maybe I should have had a closer look. it has typical rust and then some.

Re: 66 rescue
sorry about the pictures being on there side not sure why it did that. they were fine when I was attaching them. the second pick is when the snow finally melted and I was able to drag it out of the field.

Re: 66 rescue
needless to say it was something Fred and Barney would have been proud of. maybe it should have gone to the crusher. I couldn't stand the thought of it and I didn't pay a ton for it so away I went. it needs just about everything you can think of on the bottom of the cab. yikes! but most of it you can get repo right. I bought a ton of work. lol! why does this thing rotate my pictures?

Re: 66 rescue
Try rotating the picture clockwise before posting, this works for me. If using Windows 7 open the location where the image is saved (Window key + E) and right click on the image, select Rotate Clockwise.
Looks like you have your work cut out for you there!

Re: 66 rescue
this should make you feel better about yours! mine is just as rusted if not more and its a truck that was bought new in north texas thats ben here it hole life. fear not its nothing that cant be repaired on them. it always makes me laugh when some one up north buys a truck from texas and expects it to have zero rust, i have owned many texas trucks and they have always had some degree of rust. just keep your chin up and good luck!

Welcome to the forum
You do have some rust issues to repair, but I have seen worse. What does your truck have for an engine? Does it run?

Re: 66 rescue
truck was a 235 with the three in the tree. it wasnt running. i have a 350 4 bolt main to install and a line on a 700r4 tranny also. i have currently swapped the front cross member from a 72 onto the frame. that gives me disc breaks up front. also swapped the rear diff from the same truck. i have a lot of body work on the cab to get done before i get back into drive line install.

Re: 66 rescue
Now that you mention it I believe it was the 250. Not sure why I had 235 in my head. I guess that's why you shouldn't post stuff late at night. Lol! I didn't spend much time with it it had sat in the field we first saw it in since the mid 80s. At least that's what we could tell from the paper work we could still read that wasn't destroyed by mouse poop and urine. PO couldn't say when it was parked just that it had been an awfully long time.

Re: 66 rescue
a truck is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it so if your happy that means you got a good deal.

Re: 66 rescue
I'd be curious to know the paint code on that. I'm wondering if it's a Dark Aqua Poly truck paint code 536 or if it's a 538 Dark Blue. The tag is on the drivers kick panel.

Re: 66 rescue
I was wondering about that myself. I'm not sure if it looks the way it does because of the sun and weather beating on it. I've never seen this color before.

Re: 66 rescue
had one of those days today. uphill battle all the way! nothing going my way. I had to come in for a bit take a breather and collect my thoughts. then went back to it for a bit. before I threw in the towel I was able to get one patch in. I was hoping to get more done but I'll take it.

Re: 66 rescue
I'm not sure if I should start a build thread or not. I'm trying to build a half decent truck to drive around. I'd love to put the time and money into a truck like some of these guys do but I'd be divorced in no time.

Re: 66 rescue
Sorry it took me a while to get back to this. the paint code 5215 is what it has on the tag. I can't find a number that matches a paint. Sorry for the crappy picture. the tag is also on the inside the door jam on the drivers side.
