Im a newbie to these trucks n im having a difficult time with my inline six. Rebuilt generator, starter, carburetor, n i have a new battery. It used to fire up wit the key n now i have to jump start it in order to start. The PO did have a funky setup to start the truck so i ditched a lot of hot wires. Could this mean i might have drained the battery when i took those wires off? I rewired the starter n generator like it says on the manual. What am i missing? Thanks

Have you determined if the generator is indeed producing a charge. A simple test with a volt meter can answer that. You want at least 13 volts when the motor runs. Generators can make for dim headlights at idle, but they should flare up when you give it the gas. If they don't flare up...that could be a symptom of no charge. Are you sure you have a generator? I thought all 292's had alternators. What year is your truck? Either way you still need to verify that you're getting 13+ volts.

My headlights would turn on with no problem and not dim either. I have a 64 c20 and yes it has a generator. Everyone always tells me that that year didnt have a generator. I dont know if the previous owner put it in or what but it does have one. Ill take a few pics tomorrow and maybe i can upload them on this bad boiii thanks!

Be sure to post a nice close up of the voltage regulator too showing the wire terminals. And check your voltage at idle, and as you bring up the rpm's.
