Any tips on making paint stick on tailgate band?
Well as you can see the paint just peels off. I primes it before I applied it and I did it indoors so it was warm.

chrome doesn't hold paint well. It needs to be scuffed so that it has some tooth to hold the primer. Primer and paint need to be the same brand. Tape the area, scuff the chrome (scotchbrite), prime (might even use a self etching primer), seal, scuff, paint. Using the same type of paint and primer are probably the two biggest things as it looks like your paint is crinkling and lifting which is usually caused by miss matched paint/primer but could also be caused by poor prep ie. not using a wax/grease remover like prepsol.

Looks like your primer reacted to the paint. I never use primer under a spray can paint unless I am trying to smooth out a surface and even then its only spot primed . As long as you have a good clean surface those spray can enamels will stick to anything . ( Note the word clean ) . If you use a primer under the color coat when you peal the tape off you will most likely see the primer on the edge . Scuff it a little and paint it .

What about just using the vinyl lettering instead? Any sign shop could make it or I think LMC has it in red.

Okay I'll pull the tailgate band off and off and get to work cleaning that red paint off and whatnot. Also, this yellow was the original paint on it but I obviously painted over it. Anybody know the name of this yellow? I may take it back to original.
