oil light stays on

I recently purchased a 1964 chevy c10 stepside. It had not been started for 10 years but had just had the engine rebuilt before the parked in garage. I went thru many steps to get started and it it sounding good but the oil light stays on. I have changed oil and filter twice and still stays on.

Re: oil light stays on

do you have a pressure gauge that you can pull the sender and hook it up and see if you have pressure?......If not then pull the wire off of the sender and see if the light is still on if YES then you have a short to ground somewhere in the wiring...... if it goes out then replace the sender

Do the cheapest first check for a kink in the oil line if ok change the oil sending unit. When you remove the old one make sore the hole is open in the block not clogged. To be safe you should remove the valve cover crank it up and see if oil is being pumped up through the push rods. Gonna be messy but you will know if your oil is circulating. This just a start good luck.
