62 c20 stock - what are my power steering options?
Just as the title says. Drove the 62 c20 I bought this summer todat after a rear axle swap, new brakes and a host of other misc. Things. Hadn't been driven since 81. Rolling down the road at 60 mph, I'm sure that truck had never gone that fast before. Steeeing was a bit sloppy, 0play I'm fairly certain was in the sector....and it was a fair amount.
Its mounted on the front left outside frame rail, I'm sure its 100% stock. Also the stock 235. Wondering if I have any easy power steering options? Matt |

Re: 62 c20 stock - what are my power steering options?
Your options are the same as a '60-'66 C10. You will need a '68-'87 C series truck power steering box and an adapter plate. The difficult part will be mounting a pump to the 235. I know someone makes an aftermarket bracket for that, I just can't remember who at the moment. The ebay seller that makes them for all the other I6's might make one.

Just the adapter plate, link below? https://www.performanceonline.com/60...sion-brackets/ Do I need a new pitman arm or rag joint? Does the existing pitman arm fit on the 68-87 steering box? Or do I need the pitman arm off the donor vehicle, and does the stock tie rod ball joint fit the donor pitman arm? Rag joint splines the same? Thanks ,Matt |

That one is not specific to the '60-'62's it is designed for the '63-'66 frames.
I replied to your PM with these same questions. Quote:

Re: 62 c20 stock - what are my power steering options?
I did the whole crossmember swap.
But if I can recall. I think all you need is that adapter plate that captainfab sells to mount the pump. I have a 72 tilt steering column on my 63 and it all noted right on. |
