6.0/4L80E length/weight?
I have my eyes on a 6.0/4L80E (at least I think that's what the trans is). It's a 135mi drive each way. 2WD truck (06 Silverado).
I'd much rather take my old station wagon than the truck, it'll comfortably cruise at 75 vs the truck burning twice as much gas at 55. I don't mind getting the interior a little messy if the engine is a little messy. I don't know if it'll fit. Anyone know how long/heavy the combo is? Also, did the 6.0 ever come in front of a 4L60E in a truck or did it always get the 80?

Came in front of the 60e plenty of times.
The engine should fit lengthwise in any 80's/90's wagon that I know of, especially if the rear seats fold all the way. Your biggest annoyance would be height. Depending on which wagon you've got, the assembled height may be tight. The truck intake manifold and engine cover add a few inches above the valve covers, but you can pop them off pretty fast in a pinch. Put it this way, if you've ever hauled an SBC, the dimensions aren't any larger in most ways that matter. Transmission length with overdrive adds 2-4" over non OD cases. Point of reference if nothing else./

If your thinking about ditching a 4L80E for a 4L60E, I would not.
A 4L80E is a bulletproof, (well almost) trans and can hold up to whatever street horsepower you put in front of it. They sometimes whine at slow speeds with a large load, but that is just the super-duty planetaries spinning. If everybody had a 4L80E, trans. shops would go out of business.

That's kinda what I meant, guess I said it in a wrong way.
This is a hot rod, forum, not really geared to commercial motor vehicle users. I do, however own and operate a commercial trucking business. I can assure you, there are drivers out there who can DESTROY any clutch/trans. you put behind them.

It's a 3/4 ton truck. He doesn't know what tranny it is. I want a 4L80E. Did they ever put a 60 behind a 6.0 in a 2500?
The car is a '99 Subaru Legacy Outback. A friend offered to let me borrow his 2011 Colorado so I might take that. Apparently the guy has a forklift but no cherry picker, so even if the engine fits in the car there might not be any good way to get it in. This truck is my first American vehicle, I haven't pulled a smallblock before (but have pulled the engine and replaced the head gaskets on my Subaru, so I have some mechanical ability). edit: the donor truck is an 06 if it matters.

Apparently the throttle body is broken. I'll need to get some pictures from him before driving up. What's a good replacement? I'd rather go drive by cable (rather than wire) if there's no reason to stay wire. Would I need to replace the ECU too?

Dude if you can do anything on a Subaru these will be easy to work on for you....
A) you can actually reach useful parts of the motor. Subaru hides every damn thing but the intercooler...and how often do I need to pull that off?? b) we have a SH!T ton of documentation available to us. Between here (for swap related specifics) and LS1tech (performance/aftermarket discussions) there shouldn't be much room to fall thru the cracks.

Mine isn't turbo, so it isn't quite as difficult to work on. Still, it's hard enough to get to things that I decided to pull the engine just to do head gaskets...
He said the TB is broken. Can the ECU from the truck work with a mechanical (cable) TB?

I bought the car for $400 due to blown head gaskets, parts ran around $300... you now have an idea of how much I care about it. I take it to the dunes etc.
I will almost certainly borrow the truck, though, as I'm not sure about getting it in/out of the car.

I'm likely to drive like that, but 90% of the time the truck will be lightly loaded and I'll probably only put a few thousand miles on it a year, so the tranny should last a while.
