Blazers and Jimmys, What is your favorite? how many have you had?
My first Blazer was a 1969 CST 4x4. I sure wish I could find a picture it. My most fondest memory in it was during the Woodward Cruse with the top off and it started to rain. Luckily, we brought an umbrella.

I've had six 69-72s. One as a '70 Jimmy, then a '69, '70 CST, '71, '72, and a '72 CST. I have none now and only a picture or two of the '71. That was my favorite. Had a lot of fun in that thing. I remember in the '80s out 4-wheeling a power line and coming upon the back side of a parking lot where The Grateful Dead were going to be playing (Meriweather Post Pavilion/Columbia,MD) where all the Deadheads were camping. I wove my way through the encampment hoping it wouldn't cause a stir. It didn't, I got a lot of waves. Ah yes, memories in that thing. They're coming back now. I liked that one best because it was set-up so well for mud. The two CSTs were very nice well optioned originals and the others were cool in their own ways
The '71:

Re: Blazers and Jimmys, What is your favorite? how many have you had?
I'm not really partial to one or the other. However, I'll take any opportunity to tell this story. I have always wanted a 1969 Blazer because that's what year I was born, but when I got to looking seriously, I saw a 1st gen Jimmy with the quad headlights and I really liked that look better.
I have owned 1 Blazer, a 1977 model. Other than that, I have owned a 1979 GMC long bed 4x4, a 2000 Jimmy 4-door 4x4 (the mid size version, which I still have), a 1995 Jimmy 4x2 2-door (another mid size), and a 1970 Jimmy that I have had for almost a year now. I haven't had a chance to do any off roading in my '70 yet, but I hope to soon! I have really liked every one of them, and it sucked when I had to get rid of the ones I no longer have. My favorite would be the '70 if it didn't have so much rust.

This is the familys first blazer/jimmy. However, it is the 4th 67-72. Had a 5th as a parts truck if it counts?

1 - '72 GMC Jimmy, Green, CST, it was all original but in need of some body work. It was a great every day driver but unfortunately I rolled it into a ditch one winter. I got it back on the road but wasn't interested in restoring it at that point so I got rid of it.
2 - '72 Blazer, bought it about 5 years ago out of Nevada. It was restored about 15 years ago now. It's orange and appears to be all original, but it has a 400 in it, a stereo and an aftermarket AC unit. The interior has all been re-done consistent with the era but is not original. I only drive this one in the summer, so hopefully I can keep it rubber side down. |

We bought a new 69 GMC when I was 16. I drove it through High School. Many great memories with that truck. Always loved the big chrome grill.
When my own son got ready to drive, we were lucky enough to come across a 72 2wd Jimmy with a Cheyanne package and air up at the Turlock swap meet. He drove this truck through high school and left it here in the barn for a few years after he left home. He would never sell it to me but his mother finally talked him out of it about ten years ago. I have been wrenching on it since then. Its a labor of love I guess. This one will stay in the family I guess. Weve had it for 28 years now. Maybe a grandson will get it when Im gone. GMC made very good trucks. |
