Flexplate Question
I have a 69 350 block stock crank and 92 700r4 transmission stock as well. I need new flexplate. The motor and starter come from a manual trans 4 speed with granny. What tooth 153 or 168 do i need? Will the starter still work? Internally or externally balanced? Will probably get flexplate at autozone or oreilys any help would be great thanks.

Re: Flexplate Question
I know you can use the stater from your manual if you change the housing that bolts up to the tranny with one for an automatic. My manual started was toasted and I had a good starter for an automatic and I was albe to change the head on it and use it. The manuals bolt to the bell housing and the automatics bolt to the block. NOt sure on the flywheel.

Re: Flexplate Question
You need an internal balanced flexplate and the tooth count can be either one. If you have the dust cover for the trans and want to use it it can be for either size. Both of my 700's have shields for 153. If you have a starter that bolted to the bell housing and plan to get a new one for the swap get one that matches the flexplate. If memory serves me your block should have three holes where the starter bolts up to use both type starter heads.(153 and 168)

Re: Flexplate Question
Ok so I have found that a FRA-100HD will work. It has 168 theeth and is the 14.13" O.D.
It should also work with my starter. Thanks for the replies. Oh yeah it is an intermnally balanced flexplate. Reason is that the inter balalnced is for two piece rear main and the external balance is for one piece rear main. Some thing to do with the material removed from the bloclk in order it make room for the one piece seal. |

Re: Flexplate Question
Correct. Yep, that flexplate should work just fine. Stock flywheel on a manual truck (and stock flexplate on an auto truck) would be 168 tooth. The 153 tooth ones were mostly for passenger car applications. Don't forget to get yourself some ARP crank and converter bolts while you are ordering the parts. I'm not a big fan of reusing the stock ones.

Re: Flexplate Question
Make shure the bolt holes to the converter line up before you put it together. If they don't you can drill new holes. Its discouraging to get it all together & find you have no holes to bolt the TQ to the FL.
