anyone dealt with this before?
I pulled my 283 and powerglide out to do some cleaning and some mods and when I separated the tranny and engine the pilot shaft stayed with the converter and is hopelessly stuck in there.Any suggestions how to get it out? I've never seen this before!

That sucks. it should just slid out. obviously that's not the case. did ya unbolt the converter from the flywheel or pull the motor with the converter still on the flexplate ?

I pulled the motor and tranny out together then separated them on the bench.

Re: anyone dealt with this before?
Sounds like the splines on either the torque converter or the input shaft have started "smearing" or shearing to be technically correct and have captured the other part. I would say you would be money ahead to replace both the input shaft and the converter.

It looks to me like a perfect opportunity to upgrade to a Th350.
