Under Hood Insulation Replacement - Options
Hi... I've got a '78 C10 and the original under hood insulation is falling apart. Looking to replace. See some on LMC and Classic Car Parts but am curious as to what others have done.

Re: Under Hood Insulation Replacement - Options
Subscribed - I'm looking to replace mine as well. Not sure how much difference it makes, but for originality reasons I'd like to fix what is there and not have it hanging down looking like crap.

Re: Under Hood Insulation Replacement - Options
Doing a lot of looking on the web and YouTube. Looks like most are cut to fit. Seen them as cheap as $30 and up over $100. Would like one that is fit and comes with clips. Not having luck finding one that's priced reasonable.

Re: Under Hood Insulation Replacement - Options
I just replaced mine with the LMC version. It is not as thick as the OEM mat and is flimsy, in my opinion. It does not dampen sound as far as I can tell. I would look elsewhere. I think fiberglass is not the best material for this application. The rainwater from driving through puddles and possibly oil/AC compressor oil thrown up by the belts ruins fiberglass quickly. A denser material, maybe a urethane foam type mat would be better. Perhaps dynamat or similar floor mat.

Re: Under Hood Insulation Replacement - Options
Those all look the same as the LMC stuff. The material was broken through where it was folded up for shipment, which gives you an indication of how flimsy it is. 1" is "nominal" thickness, in my opinion - really only about 5/8" thick when installed, in my experience. The material is not very dense and is too fragile for my use- about the density of wall insulation or less.

Re: Under Hood Insulation Replacement - Options
I replaced mine when I did the resto . I was like others about the aftermarket stuff .I checked with the local dealership and ordered mine from there . It seems to have a pretty good face side on it . Not indestructible but durable . It comes trim to fit like all of them . I had an extra hood so I made a template out of cardboard for a pattern . Worked pretty good .Here's a couple pictures.
Also this comes on there truck and it is one big flat piece in a box .It is not folded so don't go pick it up in your car if you decide to get one . It is much larger than you need so you will have some left over . It does not come with anything like clips . You will have to pick them up . I believe it takes 24 of them . In my picture there is a place in the center for one that I was short . Have not got it put in yet . Also , I believe it is about 5/8 thick . Last edited by homemade87; 03-17-2015 at 09:09 AM. |

Re: Under Hood Insulation Replacement - Options
I went with the AcoustiHood ABS Panel from Quiet Ride.
I had some old thick stuff under the hood that created more dust under the hood than it did anything else. I like the look a LOT better & it seems to sound the same in the cab as before. |

Do you remember how long it took for your underhood panel to arrive? I ordered mine @ 10:00am on 3/20 & it hasn't arrived yet. The order confirmation doesn't give any shipping info either....

I think they are produced after you order them. You might want to give them a call. |

Re: Under Hood Insulation Replacement - Options
My insulation is really starting to fall apart too, is there any problem with just removing it completely without replacing it?

Wow... That looks very clean. Looks like they run about $169 vs about $60. May be worth it.

Re: Under Hood Insulation Replacement - Options
I also like the Quietride kit too. It's a shame they don't offer the kit for the cowl induction hoods.
