How much POR 15 to brush paint a chassis?
Just about to put an order in and, as it is not the cheapest paint out there, wanted to get a guide from those that had, the quantity required.
Many thanks, P. |

Re: How much POR 15 to brush paint a chassis?
I used a different product called Hammerite, thinned just a little to lay out flat then brushed on, and I used just under a gallon. Not sure how that will compare to how the POR15 covers but maybe it will help just a little.
I did not use it on the rear axle tube or the lower control arms, if I had I think it still would have just barely had enough. |

Re: How much POR 15 to brush paint a chassis?
por 15 goes a long ways..... i would be shocked if it took more than a quart to brush paint a frame. i painted all of my A arms crossmember and frame all the way from the bumper to the firewall and barely put a dent in my quart. maybe a couple cups...

Don't pry the lid off the can! Instead, see the photos on my web page Tips and Tricks Section (all the way at the bottom) for a clever way to help reduce the mess and save the remainder for safe storage.

If you do get some on your skin It will clean off with solvent but don't wait too long.

This is 2 coats plus some other parts with one of the tiny cans (3oz?). I'd imagine a quart + for 2 coats.

I used Hilandr451's thread as a guide when i coated my frame with por15. I used about a quart of the stuff, so i would agree with some of the other members.

I used less than a quart for my full frame/suspension. I used a top-coat afterwards that went on thicker to help protect is further.

Is the POR-15 spray on top cote worth the money or will Rust-oleum work just as well. Or what do you all recommend.
