clutch problims
ok so I have a 66 c10 swb that I pick up from a guy. it has a 383 stroker and a m21 4 speed in it. my issue is the clutch will not disengage. I bought the adjustable clutch linkage from lmc and with it adj as far as I can adj it. it will not pull the pressure plate off of the clutch disk. the pressure plate is a Borg and Beck 3 finger type. I think it has the factory bellhousing that came in the truck. I am at a stand still. oh and the throwout bering is about 1/2 inch from the finger on the cluch any info will help. is it wrong bellhousing for that set up or is it just the wrong clutch and pressure plate.

Bell housing is fine. Sounds like pressure plate ,throw out bearing or both are wrong.

So you've adjusted it all the way and the bearing is a half inch from the pressure plate? I know it may seem like an obvious question but....are you sure you adjusted the linkage theads for MAXIUM not minimum travel of the bearing? Wouldn't be a stretch to adjust it exactly oposite of your intentions. I know I've started down that path before and then had to stop and say wtf. Edit: Also, is the rod in the outward most hole in the clutch fork? That's the one to use for maximum travel and leverage.

can you put up pics of just what you have ( fork,throwout bearing, pressure plate ,bell housing) you could have wrong bearing/fork any number of things

All Gen I small block bellhousings are the same distance from the engine to the trans. I'm thinking that possibly the wrong throw out bearing was used, or you have something else wrong. I agree with jtrichard, we need some pics.

as the capt says there is a long and a short throw out bearing.
if you changed the adj rod make sure that the wedge piece is on the end where it goes into the throw out arm ron |

Have you driven this truck? Your initial post is unclear on that.
If you have not driven the truck and are just now setting it up I can not help you. If you have driven it and put it away for storage or just have not driven it in a long time, the clutch plate is most likely stuck to he flywheel. That is a common occurrence when you let a vehicle sit. So which is it? Jim |

I have driven it but I had to put washers under the pressure plate between the flywheel and pressure plate to drive it. But it was slipping super bad.

Is the clutch and pressure plate new? if so check to see if the installer forgot to remove the shipping spacers between forks and clutch housing. When removed the forks will raise up about 3/4 of a inch. And remove washers from between pressure plat and flywheel.

It is not a new clutch. I am leaning towards getting a new clutch and flywheel. Just not sure what to get

installing a new clutch assembly and flywheel will probably not solve your problem. find out whether or not that you have the right t/o brg and the linkage is all there

IF you get a new flywheel (which i bet it DONT need) IT HAS to be a 400 wheel ( externally balanced) .... you have wrong bearing or fork

The bearing is a short and the fork is one from the lmc truck

I would get a new clutch kit for it. Those 3 finger clutches are not near as good as the diaphragm type. If the flywheel is smooth & not cracked it will be OK. If not you can have it surfaced ground.

2nd that on the 3 finger clutch. They are a brute to keep depressed for any real lenth of time. I swapped mine out for a diaphram and it's night and day.

one was designed for men and the other for women and children.
3 prong was the heavier duty for trucks and the diaphram was for cars. ron |

AGREE 10 fold......diaphragm clutches like to slip i have never had a good one yet and never had any problems yet with a 3 finger

And to think all this time I always thought automatics were for ladies and kids......(just kidding by the way. I've had a turbo 350 or two in my life before)
