picking up a 64 tomorrow morning!
Hey everyone! I'm Shaun. I have been a long time member who has been truckless for over a year now. My first truck was a 72 gmc. I have also had a 70 GMC, 73 c10, 79 2wd blazer, 84 c10, and a 92 shortbed stepside GMC. Story is....my 6 year old son and I were playing catch with the football at my parents house. Well of course he launches it into the neighbors yard and he wants me to lift him up to see over the fence. So I do and he sees the old 64 c10 two tone orange and white long bed and starts going crazy saying how sweet that old truck is...so, he knocks on the neighbors door in the front of the house. I stayed in the back of the house as we live along an alley that gives back yard and garage access and for some reason she gave the ball to me back there rather than to him at the front door. So, I ask her if Shane my son can see the truck because he saw it over the fence. She said of course. So we start checking it out and my son gets super excited about it and tells me its stock height dad and not low enough...haha. Anyways I tell her were big time truck guys and love old cars. She says.....well it doesn't run and we were gonna donate it for a tax write off!!!!!!!!!! So if you want it just push it out of here. What the heck my mind was racing. So, her husband comes out and said yea its a straight 6 granny gear truck. Head gasket blew after it drove to its current location in so cal from las Vegas. I tell them I want it just let me talk to the wife and I'll text her the next day....of course the wife is fine with it as she loves them too. I text the neighbor the next day and she says well my husband says he will get rid of it and to make an offer. I was a little bummed since she said free. But hey it can still be a great deal depending on price..I text her back and say well how about 200 bucks for it and I'll tow it out of there, plus I'll bring it by so you guys can see the progress on it. She asked her husband and they text back sold. Consider yourself the owner of a classic chevy.!!!couldn't believe. I told my son a few days later, hey remember that orange truck, he said yes of course. I said well guess what, its yours!!! We are gonna fix it together. Oh man he started screaming. Seriously one of the best weeks of my life after having a rough last few months. My son is perfectly healthy, great at sports and was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes a few days after Xmas. He deserves this so much. I will post pictures of it when I bring it home tomorrow!! Thanks for looking everyone

Re: picking up a 64 tomorrow morning!
Haha I know right? I guess the interior was redone before the gasket blew also. Going tomorrow at 9 am then gonna call out a flatbed tow truck. Luckily my house is less than 5 miles from where the truck is.
I was gonna ask also, is that rear bumper style something that came from the factory? |

Re: picking up a 64 tomorrow morning!
The plans are to get the engine fixed go over everything else and just drive and enjoy it for awhile. Future plans are 5.3 LS, drop spindles and springs. C notch and possibly shortbed conversion. When my son is of age, it will be his to drive to high school

Re: picking up a 64 tomorrow morning!
IIRC no truck "came from the factory" with a bumper. Bumpers were all dealer installed. They might have been supplied by GM but I dont think anything 80's and back came with one.
The bumper you have is a sport bumper, fleetside.

Re: picking up a 64 tomorrow morning!
Thanks for the comments everyone. We are super excited. I've always sold all my old trucks and cars and regret each one of them. This one is going to stay. I've realized how much prices have gone up and having two kids and a wife really does take up your time and money!

Re: picking up a 64 tomorrow morning!
RPO V37 Chrome front and rear bumpers. Your missing the dust shields that bolt to the rear bumper brackets. The rear license plate bracket is missing as well. With more pictures we can give you a summary on this truck. Just have to wait till tomorrow.
Indicators are you have the Custom Appearance Option RPO Z61. Don't forget to look in the springs on the back side or possibly underneath the seat for a build sheet. Some build sheets have been found under the rubber floor mat as well. Link to use magnifier https://plus.google.com/photos/11384...17762774560215

Awesome.
Sorry to hear about the Type 1, but the good news is that they are making great improvements regarding juvenile diabetes. |

Re: picking up a 64 tomorrow morning!
That'll be a great father/son project for sure. Head gaskets for the 6 banger are easy to get and easy to install. That 6 will spoil you with how easy they are to work on. lol In for the ride.

Re: picking up a 64 tomorrow morning!
Just got the truck home....the PO said it blew a head gasket and the oil was milky. I checked it and it looks perfectly clean to me, no water at all. There's rust on the roof, a quarter size hole that has me worried. All in all not too bad though.
Not sure if I should try and crank the engine after I pull the plugs and check all out or what |
