Pitman arm removal nightmare

Thought I'd share what it took to remove my pitman arm.
I removed the steering gear from my 80 C10 to re-seal the leaking input and output shafts.
It looked to be the original pitman arm and to my surprise it was still good. Had planned to replace it with a moog unit, but in the end decided to re-use it.
Had never had such a difficult time removing a pitman arm before, I used a 24" breaker bar combined with a 24" cheater pipe...

Re: Pitman arm removal nightmare

??? I never used a puller on anyone I have ever changed. One swift hit from a 2 pound hammer takes them off in no time. One that was real bad I had to hit 3 times...

Re: Pitman arm removal nightmare

I have had to use a little bit of heat while having pressure from the puller still on there. It will pop loose after a short time of heat applied to the outer edge of the pitman arm. And you will be able to reuse it after a good clean up.
