62 engine swap

Going from 235 to 350. I have the factory v8 bell housing, the 72 engine stands. What else do I need to do a mock up to get the stands in the right place. Motor mounts from a 72? Pulling the 6 out tomorrow and want to get the engine stands in place before I send the block to the machine shop.

Re: 62 engine swap

I have been thinking about doing the same to my 62. I found the V8 bell housing and I also found the front u engine mount. These things are getting hard to find. Lucky I located two for a good price. After some research I think I would want to go with the original mount in the front to keep the originality. Your bell housing have the hydro clutch mount?

Re: 62 engine swap

Cool! I'm still on the fence on doing the swap. I want the power but I also want the original look. Good luck on your swap!

Re: 62 engine swap

Got the motor mounts figured out,so now to the next hurdle. Headers. Wanted to go long tube, but seems nobody makes one that works with the torsion bar suspension. Someone suggested clippsters. After reading up on those,it says you have to run some autolite shorty spark plug. Not in my truck, lol. AC delco plugs for me. So then I looked at block huggers. Will these work since I'm using 72 motor mounts? I don't like them,to much like stock manifolds. I'm nowhere close to that point yet, just trying to plan ahead. As I stand and look at the truck with no motor,it just seems as though the long tubes would go right under the torsion keys. I just hate to buy something that want work. Of course I have a BFH if something needs modification.lol

Yeah, I'm trying to decide whether to buy a set of the Ram Horn Headers or stay with my original Ram Horn Manifolds off of my 283 on my '62 SWB.

I'm in the middle of installing a brand new crate motor right now.

Re: 62 engine swap

Does anybody have pics of the hedman 69260 headers installed on a 60 to 66 truck. Says they want fit torsion bar system, but would like to see just how they do fit on the other trucks.Maybe a little fab work is all they need. 62 ,running 350, factory v8 bell w/hydraulic on passenger side. Need to know if they run under the bell cross member or over. Pics of header looks like they would run under.

Re: 62 engine swap

The Headman,s are long tube and pics look like they run straight down Infront and under the bell cross member. If that is the case, should clear everything. If not, my Son may get to test his fabricating skills. Really want long tubes.

Here are some pics of the Hedman 69260's on a '63-'66. These were on a members truck that he has since sold.

Re: 62 engine swap

Thanks Captrain, Driver side definitely exits below cross member. If anybody has a pic of passenger side undertneath with the factory bell cross member, I would appreciate it. The more I look at the last pic,it does appear to exit below. And I see nothing that would interfere with torsion bars.
