The ol' seat belt tailgate latch trick would be super cheap, if not free.

Re: i need some ideas on how to do this

I used gate latches that I had, and some Ford tailgate cables and the pivot bolt that I got from pick and pull. It is a weld free install I can take more pics

Hardware store slide bolt, like for a door or cabinet. Mounted on the inside of the gate.

I went to pick and pull and took them off of a 90 something F150. The cables attach to pivot bolts on the F150 truck bed and are held on with a spring clip .I removed the cables and bolts . I will take some pics for you

Here is what i did to mine. but if you want hidden chains you would have to do something a little different for them but can tell you the handle and latch work great!

Yep mine had the slide latches for years before i figured out i wanted to do the latch like i did. I'm not a fan of the chains either. My cables are also off a 90-2000's ford.
