Shift MPH 230/420/3.73?
Now that I am actually driving my truck, I'm wondering where to make the 2-3 shift. I'm going by ear/feel because I don't have a tach, and 30mph seems about right.

Sounds about right to me. That is about what I do also.

Oops, I've realized I used the wrong trans code. I have the regular three on the tree. Can't edit my original post title, perhaps a mod can for me?

Truthfully it would be about the same for either tranny unless you are racing/pulling it hard. Easy driving, you would probably put it into 3rd around the 30 MPH mark.

Thanks. Any idea what RPM 30mph is in 2nd? I'm keeping my eyes open for an appropriately patina'd cheap 6 cyl tach

Re: Shift MPH 230/420/3.73?
I would just shift where you fell comfortable as the situation is. it will be quite fine to shft it into third at 20 mph unless you have a load in the rear or that you might be going up a hill. on my 1t with a 250 i usually just shift into 4th between 15 and 20 mph. there really is no need to take it to 4,000 rpm unless you want to hear it scream
Chevrolet I6 engs have always pulled nicely from lower rpms ron |
