55 2nd Disc Brake conversion kit
Does anyone know any company that offers a disc brake conversion kit for 55-59 truck that uses a 5 x 5 rotor? All I've found is either 6 x 5.5 or 5 x 4.75

Re: 55 2nd Disc Brake conversion kit
Only idea i can come up with is buy a kit and have a machine shop redrill the hubs and rotors to the bolt pattern you want.

Re: 55 2nd Disc Brake conversion kit
I heard that if you take your spindles off, you can get your spindles machined smaller and if I remember right, you can (measure it again) use impala rotors with shimming the outer nut with an extra washer.
It's been a long time, but some guy at a car show next to me did it so he could run the impala discs for a big brake mod. Seems to me he made his own caliper brackets and had them professionally welded. I remember him telling me that he jacked up the front, took the spindles off, had them machined to the inner bearing diameters, and just put the rotors on the spindles, then made some brackets. Sounded dumb to me, since you could buy kits, but now I see your thread, I know why he did it. It was around 1985 but he had the big lug pattern. or If you haven't bought wheels yet, you might be able to get spacers to fit, and then buy wheels with more back spacing like 96 impala wheels. On my 57 chevy truck, I went with G body stuff, and Speedway sells dirt track rotors with the 5 on 5 pattern for the G body. They have a bearing kit that adapts the rotor to the G body spindles. All I did was take out the extremely coarse racing lugs, and pressed in new standard lugs I got at car quest, and change the bearings..... Since I bought all 16 of them, the guy at car quest gave me jobber discount, and it was like $10 or $11 for the bunch. That way, my 5 on 5 lugs are all the same since I have a 72 chevy 30 spline in the rear. You might also take your measurements, and see if they might have a bearing kit to fit the truck axle with their dirt rotors. Check with Speedway. they have a ton of stuff other places don't have.
