how common were 57 4x4
how common are these trucks? I found one and it appears factory I deal in 60-66 trucks and bought a 66 4x4 factory shortbed today and have the 57 for sale also

In 1956 the NAPCO was the first year for GMC and 57 Chevrolet conversions on the assembly lines, before that it was a dealer conversion. In 1960 GM started using their own components. napco4x4.org has lots of information including photos and how to ID the original NAPCO parts. The front axle has NAPCO cast in the housing. The transfer case is divorced and sites back in the frame which results in a long front drive line and shift linkage. Rear axle uses lift blocks. Usually the mount holes and floor were just torched out. There is enough interest in restoring them that many of the parts that were not available 20 years ago are not being reproduced. I passed on one in 1985 because the transfer needed rebuilt and I could not find the parts to rebuild it.
