Ashtray install
I have a 79 C10 and I see how to get the ashtray into the hole. But how does it screw into the dash? I see the connection at the top, but what about the bottom? There are two 92) tabs with screw holes on the bottom of the ashtray, but nothing on the dash to screw them to. What am I missing?
Thanks Chris

Re: Ashtray install
It looks like I am missing a bracket from the bottom of the dash to the bottom of the ashtray. Does anyone have a picture of this? or a description. I know it has to be in my garage. if not I will fab one up

Re: Ashtray install
I had mine out last winter. It comes in & out at an angle. After it was painted, I put it back in, going through the the opening where the glove box would be. I didn't want to scratch it. I believe it has just the 2 screws, but not positive. I will have to look at it again closer, and I then I can jog my memory. Off to work right now, but I will look tomorrow and try and take a few pics, maybe that will help.
Try and look up something on YouTube, I have found a lot of videos that have helped me out with removal & installation of parts. |

Re: Ashtray install
I think I figured out how to install, it is just how to hook the bottom into the dash. There looks to be a bracket that ties the bottom to the dash. I could be wrong, happened before. I attached an image that shows the two tabs I am talking about

I don't believe there's a bracket.

Re: Ashtray install
4 screws total...2 on top, 2 on bottom. No brackets.

Re: Ashtray install
Where do the screws on the bottom attach? Mine does not line to anything. Just kind of float

Re: Ashtray install
I am so pissed. I finally have the ashtray installed and the bottom of the ashtray actually connects to the dash. It did not look like it would fit that way. It has been a really long time since I took the ash tray out. So two (2) screws on the top, and two (2) on the bottom. Take the heat duct out and it slides right in. I bet I wasted at least 2 hours at work yesterday looking on line for this install

Re: Ashtray install
Yeh, that's right, that was out at the time too, in my truck. I was replacing the radio, and that tube needed to be removed. And while I had it out, I needed to paint the ashtray & glovebox, because the reds didn't match with the rest of the dash. Also painted the dash pad.
My cat was supervising. |
