250 six cylinder oil filter

Ok. Stupid question. What part number/oil filter do you recommend using?

I'd look up the original ACDelco filter specs for the one that applies to that engine and see if it contains an anti-drainback valve (ADV) and a pressure relief valve. If so, make sure the substitute meets the same specs. Personally I don't trust the ADV in the WIX as the one I used on my Rambler let it rattle like crazy on start up. Problem cured when I put on an equivalent ACDelco. After watching a video on Fram filters I wouldn't use their lower end extra guard but the Tough guard apparently is built to higher specs.

Been using Napa filters forever. They are very afforable.

NAPA Gold #1060 is what I use on my 250.

I use a 1061 on my 292. Same thing basically as the 1060 from what I remember it might just be a bit longer.

Was curious so looked up both on the NAPA website. Seems they are exactly the same except the 1061 has a higher burst pressure and lacks an anti drain back valve.

That's what I couldn't remember...The Anti Drain Back valve. I remember going for a 1060 but the 1061 was all they had in stock at the time. lol

The AC Delco PF-25 and PF-35 are what I used to use. The -35 was the longer one [ full quart]. Now I use a Wix 50160 or 51061 -- same as NAPA's 1060/1061. NAPA downsized to only one store in Tucson, and it's on the other side of town, so I don't trade with them much anymore.

Thanks sir. I crossed referenced it to a Wix 51060 as well for the exact reason. My closest Napa is about a 45 min, one way, drive.

I have a WIX 51060 sitting in my garage. It looks like the ADV will work in that filter. I pass an auto parts store whenever I go to town that sells them.

If there are closer auto parts stores to you that sell other brands, for equivalent P/N's the Summit or Rockauto sites may be helpful.

Anyone know just what the advantage is, of having "Anti-Drain Back" valves in an oil filter, anyway?
It would only come into play on an L6 -- where the oil filter is mounted sideways. On the V8, the oil filter is on the bottom of the block -- oil pools back into the filter there.

My 292 rattled so loud on cold mornings it didn't matter which I used. lol I see no advantage though....the old filters never had them so I don't see why that would need to change.

I have a high volume oil pump. Would the ADV restrict oil flow? Wouldn't it be better to have the higher burst pressure of the non-ADV filter, in this case?

I don't know if it is needed on the Chev I-6 but my Rambler 232 rattles like crazy for a few seconds on start up if it doesn't have one. Like the Chev it also has the filter mounted somewhat sideways. I've never had the Chev I-6 apart so don't know if there is possibly a check valve somewhere in the oil pump assembly. For my piece of mind I'll make sure both vehicles get the ADV to keep the filter full and maybe prevent some oil up top from flowing back through.

Either way, the two filters are the same price at my local NAPA. I like the fact that my filter has the anti valve and is quiet on start up. Took a pic when when checking the fluids today after a long leisurely Thanksgiving drive. Because we all like pictures
