What is this inside my oil pan?
Hey guys, Im swaping my oil pan on my 2008 4.8 for an F body for clearance
reasons, the stock truck pan has this thing (regulator?) .. The new f-body pan dont have it, am I gonna run into any issues if I run the f-pan? My engine came off an 08' Express van and has no DOD or VVT. Happy thanksgiving by the way, any help/input is appreciated! Heres a pic of stock truck pan... |

That is right on top of the oil filter location isn't it? Did the van have a factory oil cooler on it or something?

It's an oil pressure relief valve. I always thought it was just in the engines with AFM, but it looks like my assumption was wrong. I do know that you can run the F Body pan without it since you don't have AFM.

No oil cooler on this one and yes after some more research it is in fact an oil pressure relief valve, I guess I can go ahead and use my new f-body pan without re-using the valve, I just hope I don't run into over pressure issues, I was also under the impression that only AFM or DOD engines had this feature, could it be that same era non AFM engines use the same oil pump as AFM engines?
