67 Ignition issues
Bought a 1967 K10, at times when starting the starter just clicks about 5 to 10 times before it engages. Doesn't do it all the time, sometimes it starts right up. I have replaced the starter and the ignition switch still have the issue. Had a technician tell me that at times there is only 6 amps going to the starter which he says is not enough to engage the starter. He looked at the connection at the firewall and it worked every time for about a month than back to the intermitting issue. Could the ignition switch be the issue if it is not a 67 only switch? The switch from the previous owners had a accessory position and I replaced it with the same. Is the only difference with the 67 switch the accessory position? Any help with this would be appreciated.
Thanks

Re: 67 Ignition issues
Battery and cable connections, clean? Mounting point of the starter, clean? all the ground connections, clean?
There was a thread here about a week ago where it was recomended to get a long ground cable that would be able to attach to one of the starter bolts therby removing more resistance in the system.

Re: 67 Ignition issues
One connection that seems to be missed a lot- you might try taking the harness connector(s) at the firewall apart and look for corrosion. Clean as needed.

Re: 67 Ignition issues
Thanks guys for all your help, last weekend I installed a ground strap from the starter to the frame and replaced both battery cables. It's been 5 days now and no issues, this is my daily driver so I have had at least 25 -30 starts, I think the problem has been fixed. Appreciate the help.

Re: 67 Ignition issues
Short the main starter lug to the cranking terminal with a screwdriver or jumper lead (safely please, or ask a mechanic to do it). If that causes it to crank then you've isolated it to the purple crank wire, the normal cause.
If it doesn't crank, then it can be in the ground circuit, solenoid guts, starter, or battery cable.
