Coated the tanks (pics)
How'd I do? looks pretty much like the originals looked and hopefully this will add a little protection where the gap is from the cab to the bed which is what it was meant for.
Spectra makes excellent tanks but the first set I received was severely damaged from shipping there is no wrapping just a tank in a cardboard box they were beat to death and on the inlets caved in. I used POR 15 Last edited by weider1717; 12-12-2015 at 05:08 PM. |

I used SEM Rust Shield on the new tanks for my 85. Now I am taking them out since I opted to go fuel injection.

Looks good weider, I know what you mean about the Spectra tanks. I recently bought a Spectra tank for my S10 Blazer and as soon as I saw the box I cringed at the thought of what the tank looked like. Luckily it was in good shape as the box looked like it was dragged behind the delivery truck.

Re: Coated the tanks (pics)
Is there a reason to coat the tanks? Or just to make them look original?

Re: Coated the tanks (pics)
Besides if you're trying to keep it on the original side. The gap between the cab of the truck and the bed has the tanks open to the elements and if you look at my original tanks you can see a fairly wide band of rust where a strap wasn't at…thats the gap between the cab and bed.
So, i would either completely coat the tank if you don't care about the factory original look or at least put it back like it came for a little extra protection which I choose to do. the POR 15 was wet in the picture it self leveled and came to a satin finish. |
