Re: 1979 k20 camper special help

Mid 70's to 79 were full time with an auto transmission and part time with a 4 speed. 1 tons were part time. The 4wd trucks sit higher because the spring hangers are longer than the 2wd.

Re: 1979 k20 camper special help

It can be either 4.10 or 4.56,If you want the cheat sheet i use http://www.chuckschevytruckpages.com/73-87specs.html If your gonna part it out keep that winch bumper it looks like a old warn one you could make a few bucks off it.

Look on the diff bolts see if the metal tag is still on it,If not you might have to pull the diff cover to find out.

Re: 1979 k20 camper special help

stock ratio = 4.10:1, optional = 4.56:1
If not called out as 4.56 on SPID, it's a 4.10 (at least that's how it was born)
Even if yours is an automatic trans, it has what look like Warn lockout hubs installed, so it's been converted from full time to part time if it was originally full time. Google a few threads on here about the conversion so you know what the different selector settings are actually doing for you - they are not doing what they are labeled if it's a conversion and the t-case shifter is original. Just something to be aware of and understand before you start driving it.
