Re: Best motor mounts ? Ls swap

Maybe a stupid question but how do I know what motor mouth I have in the truck now? There was no motor in the truck when I bought it.

Re: Best motor mounts ? Ls swap

I'm also doing a 65 as of right now, I'm using factory perches with dirty dingo sliders. Everything has lined up perfectly so far, mount wise anyways lol

Re: Best motor mounts ? Ls swap

IMO, for so many of these swaps, there isn't a "best". Most of the time, its your choice/budget that determines it, unless your running a combo that has extra requirements (4x4, odd motor, custom kframe etc).

All of the "plate" adapters work the same, so if you go that route, just find one that fits your budget (and isn't chinese steel from ebay). The transdapt ones are afforedable, and there are even a few guys making and selling their own.

The Dingo mounts are nice if you need the adjustability, but they cost a bit more.

Re: Best motor mounts ? Ls swap

Tejas Steelworks has a nice setup that will allow the stock truck A/C compressor to clear the frame, if that's important to you. They also have a swap guide on Facebook to go along with their mounts. Just look up Tejas Steelworks on FB.

Re: Best motor mounts ? Ls swap

It looks like Tejas Steelworks focus more on the square body c10.

Re: Best motor mounts ? Ls swap

usually a 1" setback plate places the bellhousing flange on the block in the same position as a SBC. So if you are reusing transmission then your crossmembers, driveshaft etc doesn't have to move. Especially good for 4x4 trucks. In my case I reused the SM465 that was in the truck and basically made it a drop in swap. Also most swap headers like Patriot, Doug thorley; are designed around using 1" setback plates. The Car Shop CSP2370 are my go to when doing a swap.

However, one thing to consider. If firewall clearance to the back of the heads on your SBC is tight, 1" setback may not work for you. While SBC's have a flange of about 1" on the rear, the LS is flush to the heads. Just look at yours and you'll see.

Re: Best motor mounts ? Ls swap

I'm considering the dirty dingo non-slider mount plates. They are still adjustable. I like that dirty dingo explains the engine placement from the SBC. Engine mounts like these http://www.jegs.com/i/Trans-Dapt/969/4575/10002/-1 say 1" set back, but setback from where? Based on Glock's thread in the faq, these would be more like the factory SBC mount position.
