Anyone else still running these Dualmatic hubs?
These have been on my 60 k10 for decades, maybe longer. I like them, especially how they match my Centerline Convo Pros. In the 90's one of them stopped working, after a long search I found replacement cams for one that was broken in half. I've searched some forums and found out little about them. I've always liked how easy they were to engage and disengage, and have never had an issue with them coming unlocked.
Did the factory 60 k10's come with a full time setup in the front which didnt have hubs, but rather sealed units that lock in when torque is applied via in 4wd? Is that the factory location of the 4wd lever decal? I wouldnt think it would be behind the rear view mirror... |

Full time 4 wheel drive did not come until the 73+ i believe and self locking hubs where even later..... Your truck most likely did NOT come from the factory with a center mirror someone added it later

Re: Anyone else still running these Dualmatic hubs?
Sure, that was with the NP203 then, correct? I was just curious what the factory shipped these like when new. no hubs? Capped with something to lock the front, etc.
When I changed this front and rear end out from the original eaton 10 bolt and the matching dana 44 for the current 1967 12 bolt and its matching dana 44, the newer front end did not have hubs. There was a cap on the end and something inside (its been 20 yrs since I did the swap) to lock the front end. I still have those diff's, was just curious if the cap on the hub end is how they shipped new. Anyone have these hubs? |

Re: Anyone else still running these Dualmatic hubs?
I have one 65 with these hubs and one NOS set of these hubs, originally they are black. Looks like someone removed the paint. These are aftermarket hubs. From what Ive seen with three 1960 4x4s in my possession the factory hub was a lot different and seems to be a one year only design. I also have two factory ordered trucks without hubs. My 65 4x4 has no rear view mirror because they put that decal in the same spot as yours. That was obviously added after purchased new.

Hm that's interesting to know, my 64 does not have a rear view mirror either... I guess the west coasts will take care of that...

The west coasts?
60-66 - any chance you can share photos of both the black dualomatics and stock 60 hubs, and the axle without factory hubs? I also wonder how many differences there are between factories. I've been a mustang restorer for decades, and its amazing how different cars are built with the same options in the same month yet at different factories. Some items differ as much as one plant providing a buck tag (rpo tag) and another never having one. |

Re: Anyone else still running these Dualmatic hubs?
Heres one without lockout hubs. The lockouts were an option. They are not listed on this trucks paperwork. This truck has 8700 original miles and has all of its original parts .

Re: Anyone else still running these Dualmatic hubs?
Jon,
My '79 Dana 44 has hubs that look like the "dualmatic" in your photo. All I can say is they look the same, I think it has 3.07 gears. I have hub parts in a bag as rebuilding the axle currently. Do you have a photo of the '64 Spicer optional hubs. Thanks, Les |

Re: Anyone else still running these Dualmatic hubs?
That same Spicer lock-out was used till open knuckle Dana 44s. Those Dualmatics are the Selectro design that they either copied or had made for them by Selectro. The appearance of the knob is different from the Selectros marketed by other companies, which simply had a different name on them. Dualmatic's own design was a great strong one, but less convenient. Engagement is done by turning and flipping two levers on each side. Here those are, followed by Selectros as well as ones showing other brand marks.

Re: Anyone else still running these Dualmatic hubs?
More Selectros by another name:
I also have the lever-type Dual-matics, but just put Selectros on for a while. I thought they'd look good with the slots I just got on there. I considered painting the background red, but kinda like the all shiny look (on my '72)

Special -K
Thanks, for all the history on early locking hubs. Where any of these made for open knuckle axles. Or which of the open knuckle locking hubs, look most like the older ones? Les |
