64 c10
Hey folks I have a frame that isn't the original for my truck. Can anybody give me some ideas on how I can identify it. So I know what to buy as far as front end parts go. Thanks

I have googled gm vehicles with that wheel base and gm x frame vehicles. All I could find was possibly a 64-67 chevelle. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: 64 c10
That is a '60-'62 frame, possible a GMC frame with the leaf springs in the back. It also has a later model coil spring front suspension. The front suspension, could be a '71-'72, but I can not see enough of it to be able to tell. But then again, considering the hodge podge of parts, it really could be a mix of several different parts. Are you sure that the cab is a '64?

Re: 64 c10
A pic of the dust shield may help. Like I said, considering the rest of the truck, if it does have a '64 cab, the front could be a mix of who knows what.

Re: 64 c10
The way it was explained to me when I got it was it was a donor frame with a 60 Chevy cab. That can wasn't as good as the 64 I have so off it came. Where is the dust sheild you speak of.

Re: 64 c10
So when you got this frame, it had a '60 cab on it? Why are you wanting to use this frame with your '64 Cab? Do you not have the '64 frame? That is a much better frame to use IMO. Have you checked with your local DMV to find out what is needed to make a frame/cab swap legal? The dust shields are on the back side of the spindles.

Re: 64 c10
Yes the frame is for a short bed. My 64 was a long bed. No I've not checked with the dmv. This front end on this frame has disc brakes. Another reason for the swap.

Re: 64 c10
All of the disc brake components should bolt right up to your '64 frame whether you just bolt up the spindles or the entire suspension. crossmember and all. If you are wanting a shortbed, I would just shorten your '64 frame. You will have a much better and easier to work with frame that way. Plus no issues with having a cab that has a different VIN than the frame. I wouldn't bother with making that '60 frame work with your '64 body. It isn't a bolt on deal anyway.

Re: 64 c10
Keep the 64 cab on the frame it belongs to.
Roll out the whole crossmember with the discs and bolt it up to the 64.

Re: 64 c10
Very interesting. Thanks for the info. Y'all say the front end parts will all interchange. I'm worried I will have trouble with that part.

Re: 64 c10
The entire front suspension, crossmember and all will bolt up under your '64 frame. Or you can just change the balljoints on your '64 upper and lower control arms and bolt the disc brake spindles on. There are several threads on this in the 60-'66 FAQ section at the top of the page. Upgrading to front disc brakes on the '63-'70 trucks is very simple and easy to do with '71-'87 factory parts. It is a whole lot easier than messing with putting your '64 body onto that '60-'62 frame.

Re: 64 c10
I know it would be best to have my original frame but I swapped it for some other parts I needed. Anyhow I can probly get a 65 short bed frame. Will that bolt right up to my 64 cab?

Re: 64 c10
I would get the 65 frame it would be a lot better set up! The only difference in the 64 and 65 frames is the trac-bar mount.. The one on the 65 is better IMO with more options as far as aftermarket Trac-bars..I too live in Oklahoma and have bought several vehicles from Texas and the dmv has never once checked the frames for matching vin numbers. If you sell it to someone out of state it might be a different story.
