Need some verification please. Got my new hooks in the mail yesterday and they look great. Only problem is I believe they are for the same side as they curve the same direction and are identical to each other. Just got a pm from Randy (teeitup) and he said his hooks curve different directions and was told they mount so they curve to the inside. He also recommended that I ask for a second opinion so here I am. Any verification would be helpful.

I'm pretty sure that is the case, anyone else out there running around with the same side '68 hooks?? Maybe a trade is in order.

Have you asked the person that mailed them to you, maybe he has 2 pair and sent you two of the same side by mistake?

Original 68 hooks will curve opposite each other, there is a 71-72 style that both curve in the same direction, can you post a pic of them.

It sounds like you may have gotten 2 of the same side.

Bummer Jason, This is the first I've heard of these hooks that I sold are supposed to turn opposite ways. I've sent you a couple of PM's. Don't worry I'll make it right!! I'm just wondering how I got 2 that turn the same direction??? I've only owned one set of this style.

I do remember the #'s on these hooks being correct for 67-70.

The hooks have the same number on each hooks... so its the same hook just bent either way.

Personally, I don't think the guys working on the assembly line really cared what was bolted on. 2 of anything made a set. My 71 4x4 burb has factory hooks and there is a left and a right. I just looked at a 72 3/4 ton 4x4 last weekend in Iowa and it had 2 that hooked to the right. someone must not have liked that because it was heated and bent to the left and it didn't look good.

Finally got home to take a pic. Sounds like no one really knows for sure. Should we just say hooks are hooks? Matthew, I'm not concerned. I appreciate the offer to "make it right" but I'm satisfied. Thank you! I would like the look of opposing hooks better though so if anyone else has two of the same for '68, maybe we could trade one for one if we have opposites. If not, maybe I'll break out the torch down the road. Once again Matthew, thank you for the quick shipment and communication. As far as I'm concerned, based on the opinions presented, we have a good transaction!

Mounting location

Rod, is that the correct mounting location? I thought the early hooks were mounted with the open end facing forward, it looks like the bumper would not fit back on in that pic.

I have heard that this is the correct way to mount and it would make sense. Hooks should go down and out with the curl.
If you were in need of a tow, this would give the best position. As you were pulled forward and the towing chain hooked to the lower hook, the chain would ride up into the curl, preventing it from flying off.
